Narn Ka'Toc

Mongoose
Any chance of this ship getting re-done so it's not completely flat? I really want to use it, but it's flat. i have a hard time justifying purchasing some of these models because they don't feel like a good model. I've had a couple and traded them away because they just weren't very attractive models. All the others look good, except that one. With some of the other ships getting redone, I was wondering if this one might be on the list?

Mongoose, if you make it, I'll buy it :)

Thanks,

Chris

If they are, its probably so far down the list as to not be worth bothering. The Ka'Toc mould still in geniunely good shape, of they several I've had its probably the most flash-free, nothing but a bit of filing and your done models ACTA has to offer. Compared to the rest of the Narn range, its a bit lacking in mass, but otherwise its good. Far too many minis still need resculpts and redos, cause either the moulds shot or the minis are a total PITA to build (Nova anyone? Perhaps an Avioki instead...).

I can't coment on the avioki,(yet, gulp) but I didn't find the nova too bad. It's just got heaps of turrets that need gluing on, thats about it. For anyone out there who is thinking of getting one, make sure you use good quality glue that is shock resistant. Unless you enjoy gluing turrets back on after every battle. You only want your battledamage to be on paper

I've said it before, but the absolute PITA mini I've hit so far is the shadow scout. All those little tendrils that just won't stick dammit. Than when they do you find they have also stuck to you, and the act of freeing yourself breaks it off the mini. Then you get it to stick to the mini again, and when you go to put the next one on the first one drops off. Then, when you finally get the top or bottom finished you look at the picture you are useing as referance only to find you have put the outside ones in the middle. Or you complete the bottom row of tendrills only to find you havn't left room for the stand to go between them. Or you find, (only after putting the whole top row on) that they are all leaning to the left, and the damn scout looks like it is trying to fly round a tight corner. It also seemed damit, that the wretched holes/stumps for the outer most tendrils were too close together, and you find yourself trying to file down the inside of a gluey bit of shadow scout to make it fit.

Never have I had 6 minis (the old fleet box worth) that I have been happier to complete. I recommend building them in private, so nobody can hear the swearing/crying.

lol, had that experience a good few times. The cries of elation at the fact it has finally stuck suddenly dying in your throat when you realise the mini is also stuck to you.

i like the ship, too.
the only problem is.... i don´t like the price for such an small ship.
but it is an possible project for the future..an new Ka´Toc design :D

yea, i think shadow scouts are the worse pita ever, as for if you want the glue to stick quick, use your super glue with an activator, spray it on and it sticks instantly

I got rid of the couple i had for the same reason, they look like olf fashioned 2D flats. Just plain ridiculous. Shame as they are a good ship stats wise.

So the Ka Toc looks a little less than Narnish (copyrightable word?) in your eyes. It's a good little ship and worth keeping. When you start to think otherwise, just feast your Vulcan squinties on some of the Minbari ships!

Adira was easy as long as you had a big enough drill.

I didn't have much trouble with my Adira. The thought of using the standard flying base with it was ludicrous so I stacked two fighter bases underneath it, very stable. Shadow ships take the prize for assembly pain.

oh yes...the shadow scout is ....how your all sayed....PITA.
the assembling of the spikes is...."§$%$&§"%&$*'
the first scout i had....i smashed them into the corner of my room...and i am an really patient human.

Me too, for the Shadow Scout/Stalker...hate those things...

David, A'S has the right idea with the hexagonal fighter bases. I made one try at basing my Vorchans with the normal base and gave up. For each one I stacked two fighter bases and used two pins to attach the Vorchan. It works great. I considered doing the same for my Poseidon but I ended up using a normal base with a shorter stem.

Now, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to ACTA, I don't even own a single ship yet, so I don't know the size and make of it, besides the photo in the webstore. I agree it looks a bit odd, though: All the other Narn vessels have a wing on top of the hull, or no wings whatsoever. And then the Ka'Toc comes along with it's weird wingless hull, not being beefy enough to get away with it, and sporting the odd, out of place banana shaped wings on the sides that break completely with the angular Narn shapes.

However, it shouldn't be too hard to fix. Just beinding the wings downwards a little, so they're at an angle with the hull, would probably make it look a lot less flat. Personally, I think I'll have a go with chopping them off (at least partially) and adding a G'Quan style "spoiler" wing across the hull instead, made from sheet styrene. It shouldn't be too hard really.
