Naming Hunters

 Now that is so nasty Ken  So we are expecting to see the Dreaded Shadow Ship Attack Force "Dark Teletubbies" making an appearance.

The first campaign I was in I was playing a RAIDERS fleet, with my 1 League point make up of VREE Command Saucer.

I took a little bit of lore from the show, implying that this group of human raiders was being led by some renegade Vree faction that has been keeping track of various things on Earth since the 1940's.
My background idea is that nobody really bothered to focus on keeping track of the humans until they started firing off nuclear weapons on their own planet!!

As such, the theme I took on for naming all the ships in my fleet was based on atomic/nuclear weapons test history.

Battleships were named after U.S. Test sites:
Amichitka Island, Bikini Atoll, Enwetak Atoll, etc.

Battlewagons were named after the actual US Series Test Names:
Trinity, Alberta, Crossroads, etc.

Strike Carriers were named after U.K. Series Test Names:
Hurricane, Totem, Mosaic, etc.

As for fighter flights, I felt they were essentially popcorn and thus wouldn't hang around long enough to name individual flights.

Why EAS for a prefix? Psi Corps is an underground organisation, so their ships would surely have a different prefix, or none at all, apart from their time under Clark.

My understanding is that Hunters aren't anything to do with Psi Corps, and are actually a product of an EA black project. Really, the list should be called EA: Black Ops, but Mongoose went with the name Psi Corps because it sounds better.

Neko has it right, although they are part of the Psi Corps fleet in the game, they were EA Black Ops, who were in league with the remnants of Psi Corps in the Crusade era (at least according to the unfilmed Crusade scripts).

I'm glad you mentioned that - I was starting to get the feel that they were two completely separate fleets which were just stuck into the same list to pad it out. Whilst I'm watching Crusade atm, I wouldn't have picked up on it either if they're unfilmed

Ragnarok or Fenris,

Ragnarok - Norse end of the world when the Sun is swallowed by the wolf Fenris bringing on 1000 years of winter.

Some of the Psi Corps ships (I think they have hyperions and a few other regular EA ships) I think are meant to represent ships officially in EarthForce but unofficially have key crew members loyal to or infulenced by Psi Corps (ala Garribaldi).

"Captain shouldn't we be attacking the Centauri with the rest of the fleet"
"They might try to flank us and take this planet while we're not looking, I just want to check it out first... What's this, Narn attacking some unidentified ships (Psi Corps). We have to stop the Narn and find out what's going on"

if you get the first edition crusade book (rpg) to get more detales.

Anyone using religion or mythology (same thing really  ) as a source for names might want to take a look at the Godfinder website. It covers practically every pantheon that's ever existed.

There is an Omega class EAS Orion in the series, I've got a screenshot of it (went through the DVDs a while back taking screenies for painting guides). Think it was in the Crusade episode "The Long Road", but I'm not going through the lot to check !

could be warzone as the long road I think has the madusa

Actually I meant the one fighting alongside the Damocles against the rebel fleet in "Between the darkness and the light". Remembered quite easily, since it's one of my favorite episodes (Shadow Omegas! )

Turns out it was severely damaged and evacuated... Since there are many CGIs of a Warlock class Damocles, it would suggest that the two destroyers weren't salvaged.

The Orion reappearing in Crusade complicates things again though... :?
