yes I know, as I said, only did it because of my ship limitations, and I think you can easily see it benefitted me in no way whatsoever. the delphi passed no stealth breaking checks, the chronos didn't get to fire.

I thought it had been ruled that Psi Corps could take upto 2 points, not exactly two points.

[Edit: couldn't find anything, guess I'm mistaken.]

I would gladly accept any better rule that replaces the current beam system.
I dislike it greatly and would like to see a decent replacement. Regretably nonody for P&P seems to think about it :(

What if instead of changing the beam rules excessivly, you merely ruled that only the first round of hits could score crits (as these are generally what lead to the huge damage of doom)

Doesn't Victory at Sea have something tht youhave to re-roll a 4+ for a Crit, if not it is treated like a normal hit? This would be something that could be implemented in P&P and would help with the crit issue.

I like the 4+/5+/6+ rerolls.

I was among the first here who said after reading the new 2nd ED book that the new Beam rules are stupid and will lead the game into the wrong direction.
I have not changed my mind.
Lets get rid of this silly rule.
Go back to the old rules or take Burgers rule, I don`t care but the current system is rubbish.

That would severely nerf beams damage dealing ability. The aim of a new beam system is to leave all the averages alone (hence stats don't need changing, ships don't need rebalancing and playtesting can be kept to a minimum), but reduce the massive variance. That is exactly what Burger's Beam System achieves. Unfortunately people feel that rerolls are a fun part of the game and add to the "beamy" feel of beams. It seems that it is very difficult to reduce variance while retaining the fun element of rerolls and the "beamy" feel.

I would prefer Burgers rules over the new, too. Hopefully ACTA will survive long enough to see a change in a 3rd Edition as it seems nobody wants to change anything in 2nd Ed :(
