My New British Army

I went to Bovington last weekend and could not resist the urge to buy a complete British Infantry Platoon, got it painted by Wednesday and was fighting with them on Friday - over 60 models painted and used within 5 day's :) Here's a few pics:

Command including PIATS, 2" mortar and MMG and 3" mortar as support.

Four Britsh Squads.

My Corgi tank squadrons and AEC Armoured Car also purchased at Bovington.

The complete force assembled, minus the 6Lb crew and the Spitfire.

And my Para's (1st Corp) including 2 squads and command with PIATS, 2" mortar and Bren team.

Whoahhh!!!

Nice force.
What are the models from?
Bolt Action?
Sands vehicles?

Yup, the infantry and AEC are Bolt Action, lovely models too.
The Para's are 1st Corp.
The 6lb is from Black Tree.
And all the tanks are from the fantastic 1/50 Corgi range.

I was also at Bovington - at least I ran into Foxmeister, was that you with him Hithero? :)

Great day out - I picked up a few odds and ends from Peter Pig and a FoW stand - I have to say that the bolt action models were extremely impressive - but the wrong scale!

I'm pretty certain you didn't bump into me, as I've not been to Bovington for quite a few years! :)

Regards,

Dave

That was me you bumped into, the guy I was talking to was somebody I have not seen for ages and is not a Mongoose player.

Great models! That Corgi Cromwell is a sexy tank, to be sure. I have always loved the riveted look.

I agree that Bolt Action stuff is tiny. I was really disappointed when I ordered a US command team... I have Victory Force stuff and they look like little children next to the VF guys. I found out later that VF is a shade over 28mm and the BA stuff is more like true 25mm, maybe a shade under.

I guess it would have been better for us to have gone with bolt action or crusader minis since the range is larger, however, Victory Force is a US company, their US Infantry and Para models look freaking awesome, and they are reasonably affordable - so I went with them. Nice service, free shipping over $100, and they ship ultra quick.

A friend had the same problem with a German halftrack from West Wind. I swear, to this day, it looks like a 1/72 model. It will fit in the back of my Corgi M3 halftrack! Looks like a canoe next to a german infantryman from Crusader.

Ah, must be more than one Dave in the world then! :)

I do like the models - are those the Corgi paint schemes or your own though? The colour schemes don't look quite right, too light I think.
Much of the time at Bovington I spent photographing tanks trying to get colour compositions, especially for the 'desert tanks' - though most of these seemed darker and far glossier than I expected.
The gloss green on most of the tanks though I think was more parade ground than what most had in the field?

If you really want tiny...

2 full companies of infantry (still need to add PIATs and Flamethrowers for some post-42 fun)

A mixed tank Battallion (also picked up Matilda Scorpion, a Churchill which I'm doing an OKE conversion to, and a few M10s that I've converted to Achilles Sp.)

The beginnings of the SAS/LRDG

Got so many spare Skytrex 15mm men that I'm moving on to basing them singly for skirmish. The above are all based for battlegroup games.

I'm a big fan of FoW. I have a US Rifle company, as well as a large DaK army. Just sold my British rifle company a month ago to a fellow in Canada, actually. :)

I like the battlefront minis, but am no fan of the FaW rules (strikes me as Warhammer WW2 in many ways). Our group uses their 15mm (and Peter Pig and Skytrex) to play a battlegroup level ruleset not too dissimilar to Fire at Will - which most of the folks at Bovington seemed to be playing the other day.

You guys in the UK are lucky in that respect. We do not have many conventions like that here, most of them are comic/sci-fi or are GW's Games Day.

We do get one here in the South that Non Com and I are going to attend in September...

not nearly as large as the stuff you guys are used to, but a big deal to us.
