My first WaW game & Battle report

dsfrankevo

Mongoose

As always - I posted this first on Evocommand.com - a great site - check it out

About 1650 points of Soviets vs Germans - we decided to play lenghtwise rather than widthwise

Featuring my recently finished Russians - wanting to use only painted stuff - we used my Volkstrum as Volksgrenadiers - expect to see the German Vehicles (Except the Hetzer) repainted to match the Hetzer's ambush camo pattern

Comments are welcome, as always....

Big winners of the game are Ambushing Engineers, Anti-Tank Explosives, Anti-Tank Rifles (vs Infantry) & the Panther!

As I said on Evo Command, the combination of beautifully painted armies and all that great terrain is a winner. Thanks for such a great AAR!

Really awesome, thanks for that. Sooo entertaining.

Dang, I'd forgotten about the whole "break point" thing from the original Battlefield Evolution. That was a pretty interesting concept.

I'd add the NKVD officer as a big winner. Otherwise that hero of the Soviet Union would never have given his life for the motherland. Instead he'd be alive today with seven grandchildren somewhere in New York.

Nice demonstration of the usefulness of the jeep, too. I'd never thought about Herr Kommisar racing around in that thing gathering a broken army up around him.

This report reminded me of a time I succesfully charged a Wirblewind with a Desant Squad and planted four AT mines. As usual, the Desant squad paid with their lives. Unfortunately for Stalin, the freaking AT mines didn't even scratch the Wirblewind's paint! I rolled nothing but ones, twos and threes.

Funny thing is that my initial draft of WaW used the Break Point as a default scenario rule. 8)
IMO it is the biggest game "balancer" in WaW.
Let the German player field his King Tiger, he will most certainly suffer from the low break point of his force.

I even wrote at length in the Design Notes of WaW about it...
