Help me improve my skills, please!

Thanks!

I fear that these USN vessels maybe somewhat dark, no?

I am starting to work on a same size Japanese fleet now, and hope to get it ready sometime next week. I will be trying to paint some GW astronomican grey (foundation paint range), wash it with the blue ink mixed with astronomican grey and some black, and then drybrush light astronomican grey back on.

The decks will be some wood colour, which I haven't chosen yet, but I don't know whether the destroyers should also have wood decking. Can someone tell me, please?

It depends how you paint them :)

The yanks actually did use quite alot of variety during the war years in their painting schemes - though they never did try Mountbatten pink to my knowledge :)

N. Atlantic dazzle camouflage (excuse my less than excellent paintjob compounded by bad photo) is a bit more interesting...

I've failed to dig out any colour photos of the Iowas from during the war, however going from post-war colours you get to vary from the dark grey decks typical of the other US BBs.

And the carriers obviously are a bit more interesting - especially the escort carriers, which I've seen photos of in dazzle schemes.

I looked at the shipcamouflage site and to some of those dazzle stripes from the N Atlantic, but thought I was still not up to doing them in the smaller ships, so only my Iowa has it. The Pink is an idea, though

The Essex carrier is still not primed and I have been thinking on how best to paint the lines on the flight deck - I was thinking something like a stencil, but yours look good - was it freehand?

I've been busy with the IJN fleet now: here are some work in progress pictures:

The Shokaku's deck was freehand (I didn't get the stencil to work...), but my skills need some improving, I think.

4 Gato Subs the Yorktown and 2 Pensacolas ( before Camo Pattern )

The last Gato is missng still searching the right Pink Color for the Seatiger
(operation Pettycoat)

Play with WW2 RN and you can have (Mountbatten) pink for some DDs and CLs for real, without resorting to "Hollywood" as a painting guide :D

They are much better than my 1/3000 Navwar ship http://cid-eb766c1c71b62def.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Victory%20at%20Sea/24062009057.jpg It just looks like a mass of grey :(
