Task Force Sugar

sounguru

Mongoose
So I decided to build a fleet and wanted to base it off of a real battle fleet from the battle of midway. There are 2 task forces involved in the battle so the first one I put together was task force Sugar.

Going to get all minis from GHQ

Carriers

Enterprise: CV-6
Planes on board: 27 Wildcats, 38 Dauntless and 15 Devastators (will use Avenger models for the planes since I can't find Devastator mini and the Avenger replaced it.)

Hornet: CV-8
Planes on board: 27 Wildcats, 37 Dauntless and 15 Devastators (will use Avenger models for the planes since I can't find Devastator mini and the Avenger replaced it.)

Heavy Crusiers:

Pensacola CA-24 (Will use Salt Lake City mini same class)
Northhampton CA-26
Vincennes CA-44*
Minneapolis CA-36*
New Orleans CA-32*

*= Will use CA-38 San Fransico same class

Light Crusiers:

Atlanta CL-51

Destroyers:

Porter Class
Balch DD-363
Phelps DD-360

Farragut Class
Worden DD-352
Aylwin DD-335
Monagham DD-354

Fletcher Class
Maury DD-576
Conyngham DD-371

Benham Class
Benham DD-397
Ellet DD-398

All in all about $275 in metal with alot of extra aircraft and 3 extra DD's left over. We will see how much of that get's eaten up when I finish the loadout for task force Fox. :D

I have no idea how it will work in a game since I still need to pick up the books but after palying a demo game it inspired me to get others in my area to play.

two things off the top of my head
firstly that seems a heck of lot of money.
what scale are you using?
secondly i hope you know that the ratio of model planes to real planes is, i believe, 1:6.
oh and well done for going for a historical force. (not a points person myself)
n

1:2400 scale so I will need a big palying area

And on the planes I will be doing a 1 plane shows one plane at again 1:2400. I just love to see a swarm of planes sweeping down on thy enemy. :P

Okay I decided to build 2 versions on this fleet. One at 1/2400th with 1/600th scale fighters and one at 1/6000th scale using the same planes.

So I have decided to go for the 1/6000th scale fleet first so I can start playing.

I have it figured right for the 1/6000th and using only one plane at the 1/600th scale to represent a flight I have a total of just under $130 with shipping :D

That covers both task force sugar and fox along with the 19 subs that were present and all of the carrier based fighter/bomber/torpedo planes.

47 ships (with 23 extra boats I can use a sunk markers)
66 planes each counting as a flight of 4

Think I'm set...... :lol
