My British and German fleets.

Hi,
finally got round to taking pics of my German and British fleets for VAS. Both are 5 point raid and are 1:3000 NAVWAR. The sea is a bit blue. Will try to dull it down a bit wit the next fleet. Not the tidyest of paint jobs as I wanted to get each fleet finished in 2 nights.

All comments, good or bad welcome.

Navwar may be not as detailed as the larger models, but as a wargame figure they are relatively much cheaper and perform on the table just as well, and has no real effect on gameplay.

It really all depends if you are purely a gamer or the modelling side is just as important

Either way Its a personal choice and purely aesthetic.

Nice paint job Gaz

I think your ships look great. Navwar/Syktrex/Panzerschiffe have the advantage of being ships that would would be comfortable allowing somebody else to use. Letting people borrow your GHQ ships is a good way to get them broken.

When I compare your 2 nights work against my week, I'm completely disgusted, so I'll just ask two questions :
What paint did you use, especially for the hulls ?
How did you do the darn sea ?

And nobody should have the right to place the phrase 'Not the tidyest of paint jobs' and those pics in the same post ...

I like the waterline effect in your second photo. I toyed with it but quickly dismissed it, mostly due to the sculpted water on my bases. As regards to the Navwar figures, I mostly use GHQ but have 7 C-in-C (Nagato, Haruna, and 5 destroyers- you can see them in a previous post). I do love painting the GHQ ships and they do look great up close but I'll be damned if I can tell the difference from normal playing height!

I don't like the Navwar models, too basic,

What do you like? If you've found a 1:3000 model that isn't basic can you let me know who makes it please? Or do you like the larger scales?

Loving the ships - very effective job - I think you're right to do a functional job on these models. I'm almost inpisred to paint my 1:3000 ships now.

Can I see red waterlines on the RN ships?

Hi,
thanks for the comments and yes that is a slight bit of red at the water line.

When I find my painting book I'll let you know what colours I used. I think it was Vallejo model colour dark and medium sea grays.

The bases were coated with a thin layer of Vallejo - Transparent Water Gel. Leve it to dry for about 30 seconds and then dab the top with the flat side of a wooded spatula (stollen from starbucks). THis gives the wave affect. Then press some down for the wake.

Hope this helps.
