Multiclassing into Scholar

Hi all!

After having run a few Conan adventures (and loving every minute of it), one of my players wants to multi-class her Temptress into a Scholar. However, she's only got a 16 Intelligence. According to the Scholar Skill points, she would get 8 + Int Mod in skill points, unless she gets the whole 44 skill points at 1st Level.

If she doesn't get 44 points for her skills multi-classing into Scholar, there's something of a problem. According to the text for Scholar, the Scholar must spend 12 points on Knowledge Skills. 8 + 3 = 11. Clearly she doesn't have the points.

If she doesn't get 44 points, then can she even multi-class into Scholar? Or, have I got this wrong somehow?

The Scholar must spend 12 points on Knowledge skills at First level, not at First Scholar level. As your character does already have Temptress levels, this rule doesn't apply. After first level, scholars have only to spend 3 points on Knowledge skills, which is easily done with your 11 points.

First of all, the quadrupled skill points you get from a class (44 in your example) you only get at your 1st character level (so only if you start out as that class). At every subsequent level, and at every level when someone multiclasses into scholar (using that as an example) they would only get 8+Int skill points per level. This is very important, because otherwise multiclassing would be enormously benefical and would quickly get out of hand.

The restriction for scholar skill points is actually that they have to spend 12 points on Knowledge skills at 1st level (it should really say character level there), and 3 points at every subsequent level (this includes if you multiclass into scholar).

So the temptress in your game would get 8+Int skill points if she multiclassed into scholar. She would have to spend at least 3 of those points on Knowledge skills.

I hope this was clear; feel free to follow up with more questions if not. :)
