Mongoose RuneQuest II Elves (Aldryami) too powerful?

Mongoose
We are starting a new Mongoose RuneQuest II game soon and some of our players were initially upset that the game is so human-centric. The core book really only covers making human characters. We wanted a bit of diversity so knowing the game can easily accomodate this if you get ahold of Monster Coliseum, I got access to that book and made an elf (Aldryami) character. He is a Vronkali (Green Elf), as discussed on pg 25 of Monster coliseum.

If you look at these elves they get inherent armor points in every body location of 5 armor points and no encumbrance penalty but they do suffer a Strike Rank penalty of -7. Their armor is their skin/inherent basically. My GM looked at my character and thought at first I might have min/maxed or fudged it in this area but I explained I simply added what I was supposed to according to the Monster Coliseum book.

Should my character be nerfed like my GM is thinking or should we play it by the book, as written?

IMO, if you and your GM can't agree, compromise is the best solution. Look at the things you like about your PC and the things your GM doesn't and see if you can meet somewhere in the middle.

For the sake of it, let's say the natural armour is not an issue for you and it is for your GM, simply agree that your PC doesn't have natural armour and must buy armour as normal.

That type of thing.

I think you've misread the entry in Monster Coliseum.

The aldryami in there are kitted for battle, and if you look at the Typical Armour entry, it says 'Aldryami Lacquered Wood'. This isn't their skin; its additional, aldryami-grown wooden armour. However, because its wood, and because aldryami are tied to their forests, they don't suffer any ENC for wearing it (although the SR penalty still applies).

I'm a bit confused then. I thought the lacquered wood was simply their natural inherent skin armor.

How do you know what you get when you make a character of another race? How do you know what is part of a kit and what you get automatically for making a PC of that race?

Basically you get everything in the monsters entry. Where it says; Typically ABC, that means that is what most creatures of that type have, as in the armour for your PC. Where that deviates it is generally noted as (and this is an example only)Armour: Natural Hardened Wood, No AP or SR penalty. Or something similar to that.
