Mongoose and Rebellion questions for Mr.Sprange

Mongoose
Following the recent cessation of miniatures production announcement, I was recently reminded of the partnership between Mongoose and Rebellion over the Evolution series announced a year ago.

Is there still a partnership now and going forward beyond this year? Has the relationship changed? Can you describe the relationship?

Is the collapsing of the SST forum into the BF:Evo forum a move to transition a combined forum or product line to another company?

I think answers to these questions may help the customer's understand if there will be any future continuity or support for the miniatures line or the game systems.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi there,

I obviously can't go into too many details about our relationship with Rebellion, as they are private. However, Rebellion is a part owner in the BF Evo brand.

The move of SST to the BF Evos forum is a recognition of the prominence that BF Evo will get this year. It will be our core 28mm skirmish system, used for SST (though this will likely be through free army lists), World at War and Modern Combat.

Each of the games use the same core rules, with just the 'advanced rules' chapters and army lists changing, depending on the genre.

Matthew,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I hope then that you could clarify my perception of the current status of miniature rules and games:

Starship Troopers Game box and rules- Discontinued
Starship Troopers Game Miniatures- On Hiatus
Starship Troopers v2-War of the Species- To be released as freeware

Battlefield Evolution Rules- Focus of 2008 ttg efforts
Battlefield Evolution Miniatures- Discontinued
Starship Troopers Evolution- free army lists to be released
World at War Evolution- hardcopy, pdf, or free??
Modern Combat Evolution- hardcopy, pdf, or free??

B5 A Call to Arms Rules- produced and supported
B5 A Call to Arms Miniatures- on hiatus
B5 RPG miniatures- on hiatus

Gangs of Mega-City:One Game Box- Discontinued or remaining stock?
Gangs of Mega-City One Rules- ??
Gangs of Mega-City:One Miniatures- On Hiatus

Runequest Miniatures- On Hiatus

Is the above accurate?

Thanks,

Mike

Mostly correct. The BF Evo games (with the exception of SST) will be getting proper book releases.

Gangs of Mega-City One is resting on remaining stock at the moment. As we have always said, we will be returning to Mega-City One if/when the new films appear.

As for RuneQuest, they are relying on remaining stock too (which is very low!), but we are currently working on a new RQ-based miniatures project. No promises though, as everything is in very early stages.

I am a little confused... are the rule sets for SST V2 War of the Species different than the Starship Troopers Evolution Rules?

Starship Troopers Evolution was a test at paring the original rules down into something that successfully blended flexibility with simplicity by bringing it more in line with Battlefield Evolution. From what I gather, it didn't go over very well, mainly due to issues with losing too much of the flexibility offered by the original rules.

As a result, Mongoose is developing SST:WOTS to be closer to the original, but taking many design cues from Battlefield Evolution. This will result in more simplicity of execution while maintaining a gread deal of flexibility and customizatin. Mongoose is banking on this adjustment, as well as adapting a "plug and play" method of adjusting the rules for different backgrounds, to result in this so-called Battlefield Evolution 1.5 being an all-encompassing core rule set that can be applied to all their future "skirmish" games, and potentially go open-source a la D20.

At least, that's how I understand it.

So SST isn't dead, just dormant.

Mongoose just shut down its miniature line, why start the RQ miniatures game? Why not focus on what is working?

Not necessarily a game, might just be minis for the rpg.
In the same style as DnD minis or even the Star Wars RPG (pre-D20).

True enough. Presumably through a third party caster, since low volume is the reason for shutting down the dedicated miniatures games?
