Modern mythology and the Hyborian age

Howards Hyborian Age has many references to mythology. Among these are The Nordheimir being split into the warring Aesir and Vanir tribes (and some of them even being named for Norse gods). The Evil Sorcerer Thoth-Amon. The Stygian Cult to the demon-god Set. The Shemitish goddess Ishtar. The Cimmerian god Crom. And to a lesser degree the God Mitra (a twist on the Cult of Mithras).... I'm sure there are many more that I have forgotten or never noticed.
This is clearly a subtle (and not so subtle) way of showing that figures from the Hyborian Age are still remain with us in our modern myths.
My question is, has anyone run with this concept? Has anyone built a spear wielding Cimmerian named CuChulain? Or a Stygian Noble named Horus? Or a hammer wielding Vanir named Thor?
I noticed that the Age of Conan MMO ran with this concept, naming a Vanir ship "Naglfar", and I really like this concept, so I wanted to see if anyone else played with it.

We have a character named Tyrius. Not a Nordheimer, but he has two sons by a creature named Lofn - Ullr and Vali.

Certain amount of subtlety is required as our heroes aren't very heroic or, really, competent. Good PR firm can maybe make them legendary after the fact, I suppose.

I don't think that really matters. Set is totally different than the Egyptian god. And Thoth-amon is the opposite of the Egyptian god Thoth. The Hyborian Aesir are the Blonde tribe as where in Norse myth, the Vanir are predominantly Blonde. And Ishtar and Crom also only bear passing similarity to the characters they've become.
I think the name is mostly what matters, the characters name is remembered, but millennia of retelling will have warped his story so much that the similarities can be pretty small.

I'm running a campaign where the release of a being called "Wodin" is spelling trouble for the cult of Ymir. Although that is mostly based on "Cairn on the Headland". None of the PCs have appropriate names, but I'm already inventing ceremonial religious titles for a little later on...

I played a one eyed Nordheimr scholar called Grimnir for a while (Grimnir is one of the names of Odin). He was a sort of dodgy trickster, sorcerer, shaman type of character.
