Howards Hyborian Age has many references to mythology. Among these are The Nordheimir being split into the warring Aesir and Vanir tribes (and some of them even being named for Norse gods). The Evil Sorcerer Thoth-Amon. The Stygian Cult to the demon-god Set. The Shemitish goddess Ishtar. The Cimmerian god Crom. And to a lesser degree the God Mitra (a twist on the Cult of Mithras).... I'm sure there are many more that I have forgotten or never noticed.
This is clearly a subtle (and not so subtle) way of showing that figures from the Hyborian Age are still remain with us in our modern myths.
My question is, has anyone run with this concept? Has anyone built a spear wielding Cimmerian named CuChulain? Or a Stygian Noble named Horus? Or a hammer wielding Vanir named Thor?
I noticed that the Age of Conan MMO ran with this concept, naming a Vanir ship "Naglfar", and I really like this concept, so I wanted to see if anyone else played with it.
