Modern backgrounds,professions and skills?

I have been looking for modern backgrounds, profession and skills. And while I have found a few on here, most are dead links. Does anyone happen to know of any? I do not need full changes of rulesets to reflect the modern world, just those three items.

You might try searching for modern BRP rulesets as the mechanics are very similar and may give you the skills and occupations appropriate to a modern day game.

Cthulhu Now and Laundry are two that spring to mind. There are pdfs covering modern weapons in Call of Cthulhu that will port across with little to no modification if you need extra detail.

Thank ya, I do not however need the weapons. simply the skills and such. I am not sure if the BRP skill/profession set up is the same. I have never played that system.

The Legend system is derived from Basic Role Playing/Chaosium Runequest. Anything that mentions BRP will provide what you need in the way of professions and skills. Download some character sheets for various BRP based games and you'll get skills lists suitable for that period. Get a copy of Delta Green and you'll have all sorts of professions for modern (90's) US based games using a similar system to Legend for example.

This year I've run games in the Modern period, Victorian Gaslight period, Fantasy and Space in 2300 all using the same basic ruleset underlying Legend. It works exceedingly well for just about anything you can throw at it.

Following up here's a list of professions in The Laundry game:
Antiquarian
Linguist
Artist/Designer
Military Officer
Clerical Worker
Occultist
Computer Hacker or Technician
Parapsychologist
Consultant
Philosopher
Dilettante
Police Detective/Officer
Doctor
Professor/Scholar/Teacher
Engineer or Technician
Scientist
Journalist
Spy
Labourer
Student
Lawyer

There are appropriate skill sets to go with all of these e.g.
Antiquarian
Skills:Appraise, Art (any), Bargain, Craft (any), Fine Manipulation, Knowledge (any), Knowledge (History), Research, and two Art, Knowledge, or Science skills as personal specialities.

Provide more information on what you are trying to do and we can provide better/more targeted help.

Here's the list that I came up with for a cyberpunk variant of Legend - this list is heavily slanted towards roles that are suitable for PCs. I also replaced the cultural backgrounds with a new list based upon social class ranging from "street scum" to "corporate elite".

Assassin
Bodyguard
Bounty Hunter
Celebrity
Corporate Executive
Forensic Scientist
Gang Member
Guerilla Fighter / Terrorist
Hacker
Infiltrator
Intelligence Analyst
Investigative Journalist
Martial Artist
Mercenary
Mobster (Criminal Enforcer)
Nomad
Paramedic
Police Officer (Street Cop)
Police Officer (Homicide Detective)
Private Investigator
Prostitute
Research Scientist
Scavenger
Secret Agent
Socialite
Soldier
Technician

If anybody is interested in Cyberpunk variant of Legend, I'll see if I can write up my rough notes properly.

Nice List Prime evil, I would like to see those backgrounds as well. Strega, thank you for the list as well.

As to what I am doing, I am thinking of running a an Emberverse game and this rule set seems to fit well what i want for the most part. Its between it or Nwod and I like the grittiness of this systems combat/healing better as well as liking the way the skills flow. If you do not know of the emberverse its a series of books by S.M. Stirling that are good reads. The gist of it being a
post Apocalyptic setting where in electricity stops, gun powder and most other explosive chemical reactions are also retarded as are things like stream compression.

So I do not need to change the system as it more or less throws the players into a medical like setting, crossbows and bows are the ranged weapons, even if in the setting some crossbows are built around a carjack for recocking. I can use weapons and such as is with no need to "Modernized" the rules at all.
