Minefields

Does anyone know if there are any rules for mine warfare for ACTAs, or if any are coming with 2e. I guess a mine field would be like an incredibly unfriendly astoroid field in game terms, but a defending player might have some say where it goes.

I like the idea - alot. I think you should be able to buy one for a Patrol choice and place it secretly either around a body or with stealth on the table. Liven things up a bit.

Wow...hadnt even noticed there were not rules for such. In another game system we shall not mention, they have rules for them. As Banichi suggested, they acted like astroid fields except they would also "spit" out slow moving seeking mines that would move towards ships and do incredible amounts of damage if they hit. You could only purchase them in certain scenarios.

I think they would fit nicely with Planetary Assault in ACTA. Will be interested to see if they show up in 2ed.

The centauri station has them. If with 18" at the end phase take 2AD AP.
Guess you could have similar thing with tokens. Maybe they would run out on a 1(d6). could even have multiple tokens with only some actualy being mine fields. Just flip them when a ship passes within range to see if there is actually mines there.

Babylon 5 station has mine fields. You could use those rules for making "neutral" mine fields that will target anyone entering.

not to mention stats for Nukes in the E-M war supplement, they are scenario specific, but just need a cost applying.

Thanks for the responce guys.

There are also rules for a minefield as an unusual feature of a campaign target.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what book would these rules be in. Looks like you can make minefields as simple or complicated as you like. From areas of space, that if a ship moves into it risks attack. I guess that the mines would be able to recognise their own sides ships, but maybe not. At the other end of the scale you would have mines like the centauri blockade mines that were shown on the program. Mines that actively attacked enemy ships, by either some form of shooting attack, or by homing in and detonating.

there are rules in Sky Full Of Stars

Cool, thanks Shadow Queen. We have one copy of sky full of stars in our group so I'll twist my mates arm to get my hands on it. I know, I know, we sound like a bunch of cheapskates, but we are waiting for 2e before we get any more rulebooks.

No problem page 196 of sky full of stars, Im the only one now in my group who plays ACTA grrrr.

as soon as I get 2nd edition im going to carry on demoing

I know how you feel. I had the boxed set for nearly one year before I could find someone interested in playing more than one demo game.

I've not had people say that to me, but plenty have asked were I got the minis from. Not many people down here have heard of Mongoose publishing, let alone ACTAs. All we have in Auckland is 2 gw stores (yes, even down here) and a couple of clubs (one less now that the one near work has closed down  ). I've found 4 other players in Auckland. Unfortunatly Target and his group are at the other end of the country.

It's sometimes cheaper to met in aussie, flights from invercargill to wellington are horrendous let alone Auckland. The ferry crossing is nearly as expensive + the 24hr drive & possible stormy crossing. Not as easy to get round like the UK with trains & easy jet prices plus we are 2 islands which just makes things way more difficult.

I wouldnt hold up the UK rail network as a shining example of a country having an efficient or cheap mass travel system.

It's better than you think, a lot of the passenger network to outlying area's in nz doesn't exist anymore. I think i got return ticket from london to edinburgh for about 90 pound which i thought was acceptable.
