minbari

Ah, I see what you're doing. Playing it "properly." Fair warning to you, though; introducing new gamers to ACtA with the Earth-Minbari War may not be the best idea in the world. The Minbari are going to win most of the time and you'll be showing off the single most annoying mechanic in the game - stealth.

A better choice for new gamers might have been the Dilgar War. You still use Early EA but swap the annoying Minbari for manly Dilgar. What new player wouldn't want to use the brutal, savage Dilgar fleet? I rest my case...

Well, the show has already given me the early EA's canon tactic against the Minbari: "Give me Ramming Speed!"

I do plan on getting the Dilgar, along with the other sides. I'm sure after just a few games we'll both be mixing it up with non-canon fights like Narn vs. EA and Centauri vs. Minbari.

You can still with those have a little semi-canon fun and "make up" logical reasons why they would fight. Say for the Minbari/Centauri, it's just that as in "In the Beginning" there was an alternate history where Narn sold Earth Centauri weapons and the Minbari attacked the Centauri for thinking that the Centauri were doing the selling. This is what Londo and G'Kar allude to in the movie. Londo says that the Centauri would not help Earth because they'd earn the wrath of the Minbari, but they still get into a war because G'Kar DOES sell them weapons- Centauri ones.

Fair play, I guess. Don't forget, you can only attempt to ram if you're crippled... :P

Thanks, I haven't done a thorough reading yet (although I just peeked at the rule though). That restraint is probably a good thing. With the crew "giving permission" to the ship's captain, I don't see it as something that would be too helpful to the poor early EA. I'm glad it's in the rules as it leaves for a few interesting games I'm sure.

One thing that might help me is that I decided because of the new Hyperion model coming out to get the EA fleet box with the fewest (possibly) old Hyperion models. That said for me to pick up the Crusade era box. I also got a few singles that might help- a Nova and a Warlock. I'll need to see what combinations that will do to assist me in tackling the Minbari. Of course I bought a Sharlin besides the Minbari fleet box as it wasn't in there. It's a good start.

If you can ram a Minbari ship then the Minbari player has screwed up or you are really good. ;)

Gotcha. You're saying the 'tactically-challenged' Minbari died in the Earth-Minbari war and what are left are the smart ones. Ergo, Darwin was a Minbari.

I feel kinda daft, but I have to point out that the Earth-Minbari War was over well before the Warlock went into service...

And by the time the Warlock destroyers are in service there are Sharkaans I believe?

Being no gamer, forgive my question... Are the Sharkaans that much better than a standard Sharlin? What about a Sharoos? What are the differences? I'd like to modify my models to repersent the three variants...

The differences are basically internal - the Sharkaan swaps the Sharlin's nuetron laser for an improved nuetron laser and loses some dice and fighters to balance it. The Sharoos gets nuetron lasers in every arc but loses fighters and fusion cannons to pay for it. Not much potential for conversions there.
