Morning PST,

Is the Rail Rider Drive System on pp. 14 and 15 of MgT Vehicle Design Handbook PDF 2/21/17 the same as the Train listed on the Customization Chapter External Power table on p. 48

Afternoon PST,

Ten members have reviewed my question concerning whether or not the "Train" entry on MgT Vehicle Handbook PDF 2/21/17 p. 48 in the External Power System Table is a Ground Vehicle with the Rail Rider.

At this point I am guessing that they are not the same and the table entry is bogus and can be ignored.

Why would they not be the same? What is a train if not a ground vehicle riding on rails?

It makes sense to separate external power for trains (as in, rail-riding vehicles) from other ground vehicles. A train can easily be supplied with external power by having power lines above the rail or in it, whereas a ground vehicle that can drive around freely (such as a car) requires a different solution.

Hello Annatar Giftbringer,

Thank you for the response to my request for clarification.

There is only one mention of "Train" that I can find using the Search feature in my PDF copy of MgT Vehicle Handbook downloaded 2/21/17. On other occasions when I have guessed that a term mentioned in a similar way was the same as one that had been introduced earlier has proven to be wrong.

Part of my obsession with ensuring I am following instructions and/or understand the process correctly is a direct result of twenty years of serving in the USN as a submarine qualified sonar technician. Screwing up a step or not following the instructions in a process has consequences that range from personal embarrassment, getting busted, dishonorably discharged, being injured, injuring others or the worst case is causing the loss of the boat and crew.

Personally, I feel that the Rail Rider entry's details should include the reference to a "train" or change the modification to Train or perhaps Locomotive.
