MGT out-sells DnD 4E (in one FLGS)

OK, this is purely anecdotal, but picking up Prison Planet today at my FLGS (Fanboy 3 in Mcr), I got chatting to the retailer. He said (caveat coming) that on weeks where there is no core (as in necessary) DnD book released, MGT is easily outselling 4E in his store. He said he was amazed at the number of old Traveller players coming out of the woodwork, and at all the newbies it's picking up. It's got to the point where the young'uns now outnumber the old guard. The B5 stuff's given it a boost recently, but MGT's being doing that well all by itself.

Like I said, purely anecdotal, and there are 2 other stores you can get MGT in Mcr, but FB3 is the only rpg dedicated one.

Interesting.... ;)

Another thing to note about Traveller: it's been a consistent favourite of Mancunian roleplaying fans for many years. Manchester is Grognard Central in the North West.

Now, until the release of Mongoose Traveller last year, the Number One flavour of Traveller was the GURPS version.

When the first of the BBBs came out of Mongooseland, virtually all of them jumped ships overnight, damn near. Now Mongoose's flavour is the Traveller of choice in Manchester.

Or so I have heard.

I've never seen it at my FLGS since I saw one copy of the corebook on the shelf when that came out. AFAIK they've never got any of the supplements in either. I don't think Traveller is particularly big around here though.

Well if you compair the sales of D&D4 vs D&D3 then its not suprising that other games are getting good sales against it.

The next big knock to the D&D sales figures will be the release of Pathfinder and the people who want their 3rd edition fix supplied again.

Not knocking D&D4 here but there IMO is something lacking from it that D&D3 still has but for quick and dirty games that go with a bang it rocks.

Personally, I love 4e to bits. I'm never touching 3e or anything 3e-related again (in retrospect, I have no idea how I could handle playing 3e for as long as I did, it's so horribly overcomplicated compared to 4e).

I agree with you Consty that 4th is an excellent system.
It all comes down to personnel opinions in the end, I feel from the Forgotten Realms 4th edition book that they have made changes that they then have had to remodel the setting to.

I do play 4th but will be giving Pathfinder a good bash to see what works better for my games when it comes out, adding to this the mountain for 3rd books I would like to give a dusting to again.
