Cosmic Mongoose
I've received a few queries via the MGT-Aids elist on what exactly is it. I do have a description on the home page (quoted below) but since it is there for the community to support the community let me try to explain better.
Mongoose doesn't allow attachments to forum posts, and that makes total sense since the typical attachment takes up more drive space than the average post. I ran a forum for a few years I know how that can get out of hand (and then there is watching for it being used for pirating materials, etc).
Right after the Traveller Core Book came out the question on attachments came up on the forums. And quickly the MGT-Aids elist was created and announced. Simply, you make an aid of any sort, you upload it to the proper folder and let Yahoo! send out a notice on it. You get credit and the community gets another great tool. You also get to go through all the tools in the files area and try what you want. No charge, all goodness. We've even had some lively Traveller discussions.
We did have to require the "apply to join" bit, because like many lists we started getting hit with spammers. Those that manage to lie their way on are quickly dealt with being reported to Yahoo and then banned.
The community on the elist has been pretty responsive about keeping their tools updated, and listening to feedback. NOTE: NONE of this is to replace the Mongoose forums or any products published for MGT. It's just a user community designed to share the nice things we've created for ourselves and would find very costly and time consuming to get published, even just on like DriveThruRPG.
So if you are a player or a GM (or both), a maker of a neat tool or looking for one (or both), if you live in North America or elsewhere in the world (or both) come on by check us out, the archives are public (the files are not!) and see if we have something you could use.
Thanks.

Because of spammers, and with a general consensus, you have to 'apply' to join the list. It's easy, just say something about why you want on the list and BAM! you're approved (requests are batch-approved every few days). Say nothing, or say something that sounds like a spammer and like a crappy player going for the basket at an NBA game you're RE-JECTED! We're a really nice fun group of gamers and we just want to keep the spammers OUT.
The Owner is the only person managing the list, approving memberships and does them in batches... there is no "customary 2 day wait before complaining you didn't get approved yet". I try to do it at least once a week. Normally sooner than that. Thank you
Welcome aboard fellow traveler, welcome to the game I guess you all know why we're here!
