Handwave it. If they wanted to create full, detailed rules governing every aspect of Traveller, we'd have an endless source of textbooks covering the tech, from solar panels in the Far Future to a ten-volume "The Science Of Jump Drives," and you know how many people would buy them? None, even if they were being given away.
What matters is that the thing works, and you can generate an adventure based on the scenario of them not working. Lots of EVA, some Engineering checks, a bit of a crisis when someone says something about an impending solar storm or micrometeoroids.
Or some ginormous great pirate ship can just turn up and demand your cargo with menaces while you're outside rigging the panels or something.
