Mega City One events

It's long been known for 2000AD to parody the current events of our time in Mega City One so I thought I'd start this thread with a possible event to be mentioned/played in game.

Block War
In an unlikely turn of events in one of the wealthier sectors of Mega City One a block war has broken out between Heather Mills and Paul McCartney blocks. Long disagreement between the two blocks escalated when Heather Mills citi-def destroyed the connecting bridges after a dispute over access to Penny Lane slipzoom and ownership of Strawberry Fields park.

Crazes: Rooing
Donning a pair of sprung stilts and (optional) balance harness (featuring a long, tail-like flexible 'beam') this craze from Oz has seen many 'rooers' leaping over vehicles and from building to building. It didn't take long for certain notorious tap gangs to employ them for fast getaways. A competent user can reach speeds of up to forty miles per hour, even in relatively crowded streets and leap up to thirty feet in height.

Block Merger
Fidel Castro Block and Raul Castro Block, once separate, have merged into a single Castro Brothers Block. The merger began several years ago with the contruction of the Castro Brothers SkyPlaza. four years ago, the council of the Fidel Castro Block abdicated their authority to Raul Castro Block, but continued to be elected "Just for publicity," says Fidel Castro's board president. In the last few years, most intervening roadways have been either compartmentalized and built around, or been rerouted around new construction, leaving the two blocks indistinguishable from each other.

As of today, all board members are now part of the Castro Brothers Block Board of Citizen-Managers. When asked for comment, Barnie replied, "The Citizen-Managers board serves as an advisory intermediary and social enhancement activity for the residents. The combining of the two boards will make no appreciable difference to the individual citizens, but will streamline the Citi-Def and Justice Department's dealings with the mega-block."

There are rules for this in Rookies Guide to Crazes

Has anyone started introducing muties into thier campaigns yet now that they are legally allowed in Mega City One? I haven't played for a while and this is going to come as a big surprise to my trigger happy group of players... I may forget to tell them that the anti mutant laws have been repealed - see if they are keeping up with the comics

Desperate Measures
Due to a rapid increase in the number of highly violent crimes over the last few months the Justice Departments Judges have been stretched beyond breaking point resulting in numerous avoidable fatalities.

Tech Judge Kraymer, in conjunction with Psi Judge Valentine, have developed airborne bots that are capable of 'reading' perps murderous intentions. These Justice Eagles are equipped with Lawgiver technology and, with their semi-sentient state, are capable of adapting their programming through shared experiences.

Their current armament is equivalent to a pair of Lawgivers.
