Measuring fire arcs

The text of the rules say that all arc measurements are done from the centre point of ther ship. Yet the diagram and provided arc measuring tools, clearly contradict this; the forward arc is measured from about 1/3 from the front, and the aft arc is measured from about 1/3 from the back. Which is correct, and will the incorrect one be corrected any time?

I'm curious about this myself.

The paper arc template is counter intuitive I think, being as it's hard to position properly over the ship (the ship is after all, far smaller than the template).

What happened to the regular 90/90/90/90 arcs? This new stretched business makes things a bit trickier without a transparent template.

The way we play it is that we measure a straight line from the centre of the firing ship to the centre of the target ship and use that line, in conjunction with the firing arc template, to decide which firing arc is used.

I hope that makes sense!

The arcs on the diagram template make a bit more sense, especially for the 'Beam' bonus. You have the larger silouhette from the superstructure and the template accounts for that. BTW Copperhead, I made a transparant turn key and template for you.

I don't have a problem with the arcs themselves, but a second arc template, for destroyer/cruiser sized ships, would have been great. The existing one only fits well on top of bigger ships like BB's and CV's.

Thanks BS...... I have no idea who you are, but thanks!

I guess I'll have to get used to the elliptical arcs, they're just much harder to judge by eye.

Personally I print templates like those in the Downloads section on transparencies for laser printer then cut them out. :)

Like my original ones for B5ACTA that were used at Gencon and Origins. Before a similar one came out from GF9 and MGP. :)

p.s. watch for ship record sheets sometime soon from me on the forums. I'll need some critiquing some.
