MEA question

Hi all, I'm really looking forward to this game. I figure I'll go USMC for my good guys and MEA for my bad guys. Just a question on the MEA, will they have their own individual army lists or is "MEA" an army list unto itself. In other words, will there be an Iranian army list, Syrian army list etc. or will that be up to us to put together from an MEA unit list?

It will be MEA. Its just easier than putting all the middle eastern countries together than using them seperately, when they are pretty much all the same. This allows for MEA vs MEA games.

Good guys / bad guys...

no such thing, just different political agendas, the MEA could represent an army of liberation from american subversive control for example,,its all a pont of view.

lets not get into the dangers of saying the MEA or PLA are bad guys and americans are the good guys... otherwise thats like saying the freedom fighters for the american war of independance were all bad guys !!!!.. history books dont write it like that so please keep this in mind.

on a US standard the MEA are the Good guys and the yanks are the opressors, but im pretty sure mr bush doesnt what us to see it that way.

And to be honest. The Americans seem to like 'friendly fire' against their British brothers. :( But they have fought well, I admit.
Bush is the bad guy in all this. The middle east should be 'monitered' not having regiments of troops marching through their streets constantly.
Modern warfare is confusing.
There is no good and evil unless its Mr.Evil.

I'm toying with a campaign idea that pits the evil European Federation against the rest of the world, who will just be trying to defend their homelands. After unifying Europe, the European president now wants to bring the rest of the world under the one umbrella, believing that by conquering everyone he will put a stop to military conflict for once and for all. Of course, the human life that is lost in this conflict will be worth it in the long run so that future generations do not have to live under the threat of war.

I also want to try and avoid games set in the middle east, as I reckon that is going to be overdone. I'm thinking about games that put the MEA or PLA into a position where they are invading Europe or US, so instead of dusty middle eastern buildings there'll be a high street with a bombed-out McDonalds :)

My MEA are going to be bad guys because I'm making them that way. That's why I said my bad guys. I wouldn't espouse a political opinion or demean a nationality on a multi-national gaming forum because that would make me a naive insensitive git.

Sounds like a good campaign. European colonialism all over again.

1 of the big scares for the Russians has been to have an Islamic state in their 'controlled region', ie anywhere that used to be under Soviet control, they believe that with the high Islamic populations in a lot of the Republics, it would have a knock-on effect. This was one of the reasons they gave for intervening in former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, etc.

Taking this point, if MEA forces were involved as revolutionaries, or foreign fighters in a state with a big Islamic population, Russia could be involved in fighting them, or destabilising the area to promote armed conflict on all sides. Could be a way to have the MEA involved. Now all you need is a place that has a mutual defence agreement with Europe and a big Islamic population, thats not too far away from Russia!

Balkans again, anybody?

In fact, you could have a situation similiar to the former yugoslavia.

Say there was a country that was trying to form an Islamic or pro-Islamic state (MEA), had a UN protectorate with an oil field run by a US corporation (US/non-european UN forces), the Russians going in from their side to stop the MEA, and the Europeans going in from the other side as a form of new colonialism, and the countries forces had been supplied with Chinese equipment and advisors (PLA).

Europe vs. Russia/US-UN/MEA/PLA.
Russia vs. Europe/US-UN/MEA/PLA.
PLA vs. Europe/Russia/US-UN/MEA.
US-UN vs. PLA/Russia/Europe/MEA
MEA vs. PLA/Russia/Europe/US-UN.

It would be refreshing for the US to have full support of the UN (or maybe not?), you could involve other UN non-european forces like Canada/Australia/India? And of course, some of the European partner states could have their own agenda's!!

One suggestion has been for the Germans to invade the French again. They used to do it every 25-50 years or so, so we are overdue one.

MEA can be themed to be government forces or militias (bear in mind you could represent the Northern Alliance and the Taliban with them, as well as militias run by the Iraqi government and run by secessionist elements). They will have some equipment used by government forces as well, so can be used as either. When it starts being released, you just have to theme it.

Also bear in mind the Iraqi government is using Toyota Hiluxi, and the British government is looking into acquiring them.
