I imagine that this posting will be like taking a stick and stirring a hornet’s nest. I think that both the MEA infantry and Fedayeen units should have ambush capabilities on their card. Since both are consider militia units and if the scenario is in their home territory or a neutral territory, it would make sense that they would have ambushing as a tactic. By the way, what I consider a neutral territory would be if the scenario was fought from area starting with Morocco, anywhere in North or Central Africa, Kosovo, Indo-Asia, India, Pakistan or the Philippines.
The reason I would like ambush to be added to their card is that they are very good at this tactic and any proof needed for support of what I just said, just look at your nightly news of the Iraq and Afganstain wars. Plus in the Advance rule book their is this statement on MEA militia, first column, second paragragh, third sentence,
" While they are even less well-equpped than goverment troops, their passion and beliefs make them truly fightening enemies, while their ability to simply melt into the general populace with little or no trace make them difficult to fight effectively." To ambush, you need to melt into the environment and surprise the target at their own choosing as well as being able to melt away after the attack.
Therefore that being said, I think not only should they have the ambush added to their card but should they all the figures be out of line of sight of any of the enemy units after they move, they once again is remove from the table.
Now before most of you get the vapors, I also recommend that ambush would not necessary be consider a "reaction ," unless the target of the ambush was less than 10" away. Then you just follow the normal rules to resolve combat and so forth. But should the ambush of a target is a unit that is more than 10" away, the ambush would occur as if the MEA has use one of its next activation of the following turn. This way the MEA would have to either stand and fight or move only once as their only action of their turn. This will make it easier to track them down and less likely to melt away in the crowd.
I know this sound strange that if you fire at a target further away that you might be spotted easier, but I'm trying to stay within the rules and still be as realistic to the game. If any of you have a better suggestion , please come forth with it.
Thanks
