May release of Core rulebook?

Well, I can only say that I also run an import business, not books or game-related but I still have to deal with more or less sudden product updates and exchange rate fluctuations. Outdated stuff is really difficult to sell. When the USD collapsed, I also was in trouble because suddenly all the merchandise I had in stock was suddenly worth a third less. So what? I had no choice but to make special offers to get rid of it, or the customers would have simply ordered their stuff abroad and I'd have a lot of expensive junk in my warehouse once the next product line comes out.

As for my LGS, it's not like they have a shelf full of Conan core books. We're talking about two copies here. In numbers, 2. It's not like marking them down in order to make room for updated products would lose them their house and car.
I understand that online retailers put a lot of pressure on brick and mortar stores, and I also know that you have more overhead in a real store and thus can never match the prices exactly. That's all fine with me.

But in order to survive, a store has to be better at _something_ than a netshop. It can't be prices because of the aforementioned issues. Maybe it's selection (though the netshops I know usually have bigger selection than a store), but first and foremost it should be quality.
The option to browse before you buy is good, but not quite doing the trick, as many publishers already offer free sneak peeks and other online giveaways. And anyway, what good is it to browse if you then find you only get outdated stuff?

Really, I know it must be hard to run a game store, and frankly I wouldn't want to be in their shoes, but you've got to be realistic. Nobody who is informed on the releases of a game is going to buy a book that has been outdated for 5 years (or whenever AE came out) AND pay 40% more than the suggested retail price was at the time.

This is why technically PDF files are best suited to such currency fluctuation, though you have the task to print it yourself.

As to running a game store, well I saw many "accomodations" in these years to follow the trend. I new of RPG/Board wargame stores reduce massively there sales to expand the CCG (cards) which is more rentable, even today.

This is why many RPG publishers also boost their turnovers with CCG.

Wasn't trying to be overly snarky Clovenhoof, just trying to broaden the horizons.

Never hurts to mention outdated product or make inquiries about when a new product is coming in. Unfortunately, it's near impossible for the average retailer to keep his/her fingers on the pulse of the industry. If they don't play the game, they may not be aware of new releases if their distributor/the gaming company/customer doesn't push for it. If nothing else it opens dialog on the game and you might be able to provide suggestions to help offer advice to improve the display/selling/popular or unpopular items.

p.s. The Mongoose Infantry is always hiring if you're not already on board. Build the empire and get that product moving faster.

That's actually a nice idea, Paladin. They'll surely have gaming days now and then. I could offer them to run a Conan one-shot for interested customers. I'll check that out next time I'm in the area.

Will the new 2nd edition printing have a different ISBN number? Will it still be MGP 7800 or a different number? Will there be a way to distinguish the two printings just by the cover?

When you compare the Bestiary to other 2nd Ed products, I swear you can tell the difference of printer only by looking at them (and I don't even talk about opening them!).

make it a habit and try it at cons and earn credits toward other MP products.

I was completely unaware of the Mongoose Infantry program. I have to check it out, although it's getting harder everyday to sell import products in a local game store.

My Flgs has sold the 2 copies of the first edition and one of the atlantean edition they had in stock 4 months ago. I picked up the pocket edition and the A and Z book yesterday. They are having a 40% off clearance sale on all game books in the store. I got out with only 3 books. i may have to go back for more  I use to tell the previous manager on what the hot game books were on the boards and he'd buy a couple of the core books based on that recomendation and did well. He thanked me by giving me a game book. He sold a ton of the Conan books after i preordered one and told him it would be a big seller. One of his store employees bought all the conan stuff. Now days its Axis and allies, DnD minatures, and magic. When they took over the next door shop and turned it into a game room their Minatures and Card games sales sky rocketed, more than paying for the extra rent.
