Max. limit for positive situtation bonuses to DM

Folks:
I have made it to the section, which details computer programs and smart weapons; however, it has raised a question in my mind.

Is there a total max limit on the positive situation bonus I should allow my characters to have?

That really depends on how you want to run the game, as by using task chains, and bonus from equipment you can get quite high pluses to a roll, but one thing to bear in mind is that this also applies to rolls opponents will make, as nothing stops your NPCs having smart guns, laser sights, computer program bonuses and so on.

The task chains are the very item that had me questioning the max. bonus. I was a little lost, since I noticed that a smart weapon system and application granted a +2 bonus to slug weapons in this one modular I have. Now combine that +2 bonus with a task chain success bonus I was up to something like +6 and I thought that was a little high, since a +1 and +2 are big deals.

Yes, it can be high, though task chains are not a guaranteed bonus. Another way to look at it is that all these bonuses apply both to PCs and NPCs, so there is a balance there in the system. Task chains don't generally apply to most combat rolls though.
If you want a max bonus, then +6 seems like a very reasonable limit from situation modifiers.
Also, negative DM can get high as well, which can help balance out a situation as well.

Thank Old Timer for pointing the items you did. I see your point and how combat becomes balanced due to the npc +/-.

I got a digital copy of the Classic Traveller rules and the open ended nonstatic DM +/- has me really confused; however, I mainly blame this on playing AD&D 1st and 2nd edition for so many years as a "hand-me-down".

thanks.
