Master of War Tournament Pack

A few questions about Border Patrol:

1) "If a ship is reduced to 0 damage in this way, it must make a tactical withdrawl as soon as possible"... what does as soon as possible mean? Is it simply removed from the table, or must it open a jump point immediately if it has JP trait, or fly towards the nearest edge if it hasn't? If the battle turns real before it gets off table, can it turn around and fight?

2) Do Minbari (or other ships with stealth) benefit from stealth, before the damage isn't real? Can the damage be dodged? Does adaptive armour halve the dmage as normal before the damage is real?

3) How about auxillary craft, if they are "shot down" when the damage isn't real, are they restored back to the ship's fighter bay when the damage turns real, or are they out for good?

Another question on the Border Patrol scenario.

4)Do you have to roll against Hull score or is it simply "I'll assign 2AD of my molecular pulsars to each of those 2 Vorchan, so that's 4 damage each"

5) Related to above, do you have to overcome Stealth to lock on. Do you still get the benefits of Dodge, Adaptive Armour, Self Repair against this fake damage, etc

I think that Border Patrol needs some clarification.

And another thing, can we get some clarifications on the typos and noticed errors in Armageddon before the tourney please, the thread is in Rulesmasters.

Cheers

I already asked that, it's no. 2 :P

Hi guys,

1. Tactical Withdrawals are defined in the rulebook - you have to perform one as soon as possible. I am sure your opponent will help you find the quickest method :)

2. Yes, you get all your normal trait benefits.

3. They are out for good ("he's bugging out and going home. . .").

4. Correct.

5. Freak Boy.

Which is correct?? Rolling against hull, or the bit on quotes?

The scenario reads 'automatically deal one point of Damage for every AD it can place on a target (doubled for Double Damage weapons. . .)'

Fairly clear, surely? Place an AD, get the Damage, no need to roll. . .

OK, I'm n ot the only one finding this Border Dispute thing confusing so I'm going to post what I think is a pretty exhaustive list of clarification requests about how this fake damage works.

General Questions

GQ 1) Can taking enough fake damage Cripple a ship?

GQ 2) Do you also take fake crew loss?

GQ 3) If yes to GQ 2, can you be fake Skeleton Crewed?

Special Actions

SA 1) Does Close Blast Doors.... reduce the fake damage?

SA 2) CAF doesn't have any effect does it? (No roll to hit)

SA 3) M2S, can you use this to take someone else's fake damage?

SA 4) If you can be fake Crippled or fake Skeleton Crewed, can you use Stand Down and Prepare to be Boarded?

Ship Traits

Matthew, you have stated that you benefit from all your normal ship traits, however:

ST 1) Adaptive Armour, GEG, Self Repair. Do they all operate as normal on this fake damage?

ST 2) Dodge and Stealth still provide the same benefits?

ST 3) Flight Computer? (if you can be fake Skeleton Crewed from GQ section above)

ST 4) Interceptors? If there is no roll to hit, how do these come into play?

Weapon Traits

Double Damage and Triple Damage are already covered.

WT 1) AP and Super AP have no effect? (No roll to hit)

WT 2) Anti Fighter, presumably counteracts Dodge if Dodge applies?

WT 3) Beam is useless? (No roll to hit, so no reroll for additional hits) Or does Beam bypass Interceptors (If Interceptors apply?)

WT 4) E-Mine as notrmal, beating Stealth?

WT 5) Presumably Gravitic Shifter only counts if used in anger, to use it to turn a ship would constitute a real attack and so the gloves come off?

WT 6) Mini-Beam, still gets AF and non Interceptable?

WT 7) Precise/Weak now useless due to no Damage Resolution for fake Damage?

WT 8 ) Slow Loading, since you're not actuall firing can you use these weapons every turn?

WT 9) Twin Linked presumably now has no effect since no roll to hit?

Sorry but I really think the Scenari ocould use some more explaining.

You can always just open fire normally right?

To be honest I think I'd just go guns blazing...unless of course I had a ship with a large number of attack dice with long range that I could use to make a small ship withdraw before even closing to range...hmm...hey wait a minute, that sounds cool!

LBH - wow, do you work in contract law? If you're bringing up the Gravitic shifter, how about the Abbai Com Jammer?

And another unconnected post, the tourney pack says you need Book 2 from ACTA but you don't really do you. It's totally superceded by SFOS and Armageddon

(Playing the role of Rules Lawyer to the hilt tonight, the hilt will no doubt be embedded in my skull later  )

That one was answered in the questions you raised at the tourney before last. No the allies don't gain the benefit.

A futher question for Matt, how does fake damage affect Shadows and Vorlons?

What do you mean how do Shadows and Vorlons take damage, 1pt per attack dice, that makes sense to me ;)

Seriously though I think you guys are getting in a big strife about this - it's going to come up when you roll a 6 to determine scenario...

Even then, most of the questions LBH asked aren't going to come up in a game and surely you can agree something reasonable with your opponent?

On the Shadows/Vorlons issue - if I was playing shadows I would be happy to let you do 3 or 4 mock damage per alternate attack die...1 or 2 for Vorlons given adaptive armour.

Still, I think I'd probably ignore the whole thing given the headaches its causing some folks and just open fire

Why wouldn't they, they're all just consequences of using real wepaons to do fake damage?

As for coming to an agreement, yes, but in a tourney you need a consistent standard to be applied to all games.

No but my Dad has.

I'm just methodical, I sat with the rulebook and scanned down the traits list, which is why I missed the Comms Disruptor, it's in the Abbai Fleet Rules in sFOS.

So would using the Comms Disruptor count as a proper attack?

LBH

EDIT Ta Greg, I knew it had been answered before, thanks for telling me.
