Mass Effect Andromeda?

Not the hardcopy, picked up the 1e pdf but would rather have the print copy this time round.
Ah, when you said "wait for the 2e version " I didn't understand you meant the hard copy. But I do understand the love of a printed book.

Carry on with the thread.

More thinking of using 2e with this idea.

The background I'm thinking of using is that the PCs are derived from various groups who through various misadventures find themselves stranded in another star system with no means of returning.

So each player gets to explain how they ended up here which should result in a colony built up out of the ships they were using when they found themselves stranded.

Depending on the home world generation they might luck out with an inhabitable world, but I want to involve them more since their primary purpose would be to explore the system looking for the resources to maintain their new home and maybe discover the means to try and discover what actually happened to them.

The background is that humanity has begun to spread throughout the solar system but an unknown event which is later discovered to be a wormhole deposits unwary shipping into another solar system with no means of returning nor alerting the authorities back home to their situation other than one of them occasionally managing to send an SOS that's eventually swallowed up by the wormhole before it disappears.

My original idea involved a prison transport that was sent off course to investigate this anomaly however one of the passengers was actually kidnapped and being sent to a secret facility run by another nation seeking access to her knowledge.
Because she was onboard she was able to regain control of the ship and use the ship's probes to discern what was ahead and figure out a way to pass through undamaged meaning they would reach a nearby world safely.

If I ever get to run this, it will truly be a sandbox and will incorporate ideas from the players so it would be something they'd like to play in.

Not so sure of that last part but here seems an ideal place to work out the kinks!

Mass Effect Andromeda Demo leaves me wondering how this would work with Traveller?

Should I wait for the 2e version of the Equipment Catalogue before trying?

So how does Mass Effect Andromeda?

So will anyone dare to stat up an Ark from Mass Effect Andromeda?

By that I mean...Mass Effect Andromeda Reveal
Tonnage: a Metic butt ton x 10^15th
Armor: oh how cute they shot at me
Hull Points:Best expressed in scientific notation.
Firepower: Please don't point that at my planet
Auxiliary craft: start at battleship and work your way down.
Marines: listed by regiment, or battalion?
Crew: umm between a damn that's a lot of people, and way to effing many.

It's an exercise in futility to even try to assign stats to anything that can traverse intergalactic space.it really is a situation where you just detail out certain areas the players might have a reason to visit aboard ship. If anyone attacked, it should be a matter of how long do you want to stretch it out before the Ark swats them down. Especially a ship that has ME style kinetic barriers. hitting it with a spinal mount mass driver would just annoy the guys who had to repair the damage o the outer hull. Add on black globes and meson screens...a Tigress class with a full battle group escort wouldn't stand a chance.

So is that Combat Armour or Battle Dress?

ME combat aror is abut TL-15/Tl 17....It has the defenses of combat armor, with an overly of personal kinetic barriers...so nothing gets through to the wearer until the Kinetic barriers are knocked down.

And kinetic barrier is a misnomer. It is a screen made up of microscopic gravitational distortions that shred projectiles and disperse/absorb directed energy attacks. So lasers and plasma are just as useless as rifles...unless you can batter down the shield and keep them down.

Personally I'd rather have a set of ME armor over a suit of battle dress in most firefights. for several seconds you can shrug off anything that hits you... including heavy weapons and RPG rounds...then duck under cover and let your Shields recharge....dash..cover...dash....shoot..cover..shoot....

in all likelihood, in a squad on squad engagement a squad of Imperium marines would be totally outmatched since ME tech is a Damn sight more advanced.
