Ah, health and safety. That wonderful oppressive regime that would seem too silly for Dark paranoia, were it not for the fact that it very much real. A health and safety officer can stop work, carry out inspections and must ensure protective equipment is available at all times.
Add to that a variety of usefully baffling instructions. Take this one from Hse.gov:
"A place is ‘at height’ if (unless these Regulations are followed) a person could be injured falling from it, even if it is at or below ground level."
So, for my next paranoia game I would like to replace one of the MDBs with a Health and Safety Officer. I'm thinking Hygiene or equipment, as their duties seem overlapped slightly by the new position.
Of course, they'll need a badge and a blurb. Something like:
"As Health and Safety Officer, it is your duty to ensure your team works in safety, and that those around them are not endangered. Be sure to perform regular equipment checks. Issue the team with protective clothing if necessary. Make sure all spillages are reported immediately."
And finally, equipment. The HSO for a 6-man team would probably have:
1 Clipboard
3 Safety Glove (Pair)
3 Safety Goggles (Pair)
1 Collapsible Hazard Cone
So, any suggestions? I'm keen to see this work well.
On an unrelated note, I learned today that the United Kingdom has 20% of the world's CCTV cameras. Assuming multiple Alpha Complexes (two per tectonic plate) the UK has, on average, more security cameras than The Computer.
