macro scale demonstration game

I am planning an macro scale 1/700 VAS demonstration here soon. :)
and I wanted to get some input from the fine members of this community
my intentions are as follows:
Out of the book, Battle of Demark straight. Hood, Prince of wales (King George V) vs Bismarck, Prinz Eugen as per the scenario.
if it goes over well I will also be prepared to run the sinking of the bismarck scenario and perhaps some non historical scenarios.
1 inch shall be measured as 5 inches (i have made an nifty gadget to assist mesureing it's sorta like an set of calibers.)
At the above rescaleing an 4x6 ft table is 20x30 ft
And the scale compression(land scale to model scale ratio) is about the same as if i was useing 1/2400 scale minis on an 4X6 table.

I am planning an test game as soon as I can find space. I'll take photos.
I hope that the convention I do this at has blue carpet.

just wanted to share.

I use 1/700 scale ships also. However, the size table you mention is beyond what I can ever use. Plus, I'm trying to get a convert or two into gaming the scale with VAS. I plan on doubling my measurements. There will be some scale distortions. But the game will still look good because of the scale in use.

I would like to see any pics you take. Good luck on your game!

Thanks,

John

Well ya see its not that I have an huge table its that I can get that sort of floor space at an convention.
Thou it would take more room. I had an idea of useing about 20 4X8 tables set up in an grid with enough room inbetween to walk (basicly) and simply mesureing the table distance for movement and shooting moveing an ship to its ajacent table when it moves off of it.
That at least would keep the ships off of the floor. I hear crunchy noises in my dreams when i think about the floor game too much

Let me know how the double scale game works out for you.

Pulled my completed Iowa class BB out for painting. I have it the Renown and about a dozen other ships waiting to be painted. I found my two Yorktown class carriers already completed. I just won a Cleveland class cruiser on Ebay and have two Baltimore's waiting to be completed.

I fully understand the concern about a floor game. Accidents can happen. I love the scale! May try and run a game this weekend.

Thanks,

John

His take was to join the micro scale with the macro scale. . It's still in development, but their demonstration was intriguing.

If you put your pics up on Photobucket.com it will automatically generate the code for you to paste them in here.

Photobucket is free and easy.

Ok. Here's my first try at posting some 1/700 pics of Japanese and US ships.

I know its along shot but is anyone aware of a 1/700 Queen Elizabeth or Richelieu? I could do with them for a demo game I'd like to run next year. At the moment specialist resin kits are the only option at about £90 a shot!!

What did you use for a sea backdrop that big?

We're doing our own 1/700 scale game and coming up with that is a challenge for us!

I have several different cloths. I use an 18 foot long felt piece (6 feet wide). I have used sheets, blue tarps and am likely going to get some vinly fabric. You can sew the felt together if you want it wider.

My Iowa is sitting in line waiting to be painted. I need to find my German and British pics to post.

Thanks,

John

The Richelieu is to be realeased soon from Tamiya or was it Aoshima?
but the model is up as an preorder from one of my supplyers, (i'm at work and can not recall which) :?
but an google search should help.
I am looking for english crusiers that are not 60-120$ each...
even respectable plans and ill scratch and cast my own models (done that before.) any ideas? the airfix 1/600 scale ships give an visual hiccup  if the ships get close to each other...They are cheap thou...

Very nice! Don't go to a bigger scale or you'll have to mount BB guns and R/C stuff on 'em, heh.

My first miniatures gaming was with 1/1200 lead ships back in the grey mists of time.
