Mongoose
Hi there!

Any news on the release date for this title? Will it still be released by December 2008, or not?

Thanks,

Blue Crane

It will be quite a while yet, asapparently first themass market ppr back gamebook shave to appear on the shelves. :(

A preview would benice though so we can see what toexpect and howpowers are structured. Perhaps a glance at the table of contents, to see what typoes of characters are permitted by core. I really hope the vakeros are in. :)

As an introduction into roleplaying in general, only Kai Monks are permitted in the initial book - however, sequels are planned!

Yes, perhaps.
But only if this can be published before the week with four thursdays...
:P

There is still no date of publication for the multiplayer game book. It is delayed since one year.

This is the same case for the Sommerlund supplement. So, when ?

There isn't one set yet - the multiplayer gamebook will appear after the solo gamebooks start appearing in book stores. Sommerlund will not appear at all in its current format (but the material may appear in supplements to the multiplayer gamebook).

Matt, honestly how can you only have rules for the kai in the core rulebook? I mean really, even if you are aiming the game at a target audiance of rpg newb's, Banedon is in gamebook 1; many will want to play a wizard!

If you only have kai why would people buy the bok, when they can play a kai in the gamebooks?? Furthermore, while one of the attractions of playing a pnp rpg is playing with a bunch of other players, how boring will it be to have every single member of the party a kai? Its like playing a Starwars rpg game where eveyone is a jedi!

At the least have rules for brotherhood wizards, vakeros, and sommerlund border rangers.

Also rules for basic warriors (like the prince in gamebook 1) (by basic warriors I mean heroic warriors for players, not your average sword weilding mook or thug. It was a common complaint of the d20 version that there was no stright martial class avaialble...the knoight came the closest but he came with certain trappings. And a lance and horse!)

Dragon Warriors started off with just two fighting types (Knights and Barbarians), and there is far more variety between Kai Monks.

Book 2 will add more character types, but the rule for the first book is keeping everything _simple_. It is intended for RPG neophytes (and potentially young ones), not hoary old veterans!

For another comparison, the 1st Fighting Fantasy RPG had warriors and nothing else. Advanced Fighting Fantasy addedwizards :)

You do realize THAT is the main reason both did not sell well? (Dungeoneer did, but that had rules for all types of characters, including rogues and rangers, etc)

One of the main draws of the dragonwarriors reprint is collecting all the scattered info into one book. It was a frequent compaint about the old books that you had to look in one book for warriors, another one for assassins, yet another one for wizards, and finally still another one for warlocks. Elementalists were in YET another book!

Oh well, given the simplistic nature of the rules it ought to be easy to houserule. Brotherhood spells are detailed in the Magnamund Companion, shianti wizards can be done using greystar books, while heroic warriors could be built using the kai lord rules but without kai disciplines (bumping up skill and stamina instead I guess)

Still, very disappointing. And honestly from an rpg neonate point of view, I think newcomers to rpg's will not be particularly attracted at being able to play just kai from the core rulebook. If mongoose can still edit the docs I would strongly suggest adding AT LEAST brotherhood wizards.

For people's interest, a few of us at TotS have played a kai lord only/heavy RPG. In both cases the Kai Lords are individual by both the powers people choose to take, and also by exactly how they roleplay them

Also, my understanding is the the RPG is designed to interface with the existing gamebooks and expand them. Therefore, I would imagine you can use the extrapolation of the kai lord class to know how to expand any of the mini-adventure classes, grey star's shianti, etc

If you are privy to sale figures I would love to see them. By all accounts, Dragon Warriors sold exceedingly well in its day as it was sold through high street book sellers. I would like to know why you think otherwise.

Actually given that all 6 books were the same price as the new collected corebook, all I have seen are the opposite complaints :)

Yeah, I imagine it would be similar to an all Jedi game which I have done before with great success.
