C'mon, I know there's more of you out there - I can hear you reloading...
My wife was in during these conflicts, but they broke her before she even made it over there. Which she was definitely going to go because she was an interrogator.
Now she is totally disabled and spends most of her days in bed or on the couch.

No, her brain was damaged. No fixing that.
Don't worry guys, like we tell ourselves, its much better than being dead. She still gets to be mother to our children, enjoy life, etc...
So yes, it sucks, but not nearly as much as being dead would. Plus she is able to get up and walk around for a while most days, so she isn't completely bed ridden, just mostly.
Considering we were initially told to expect her to be bedridden 24/7 for the rest of her life, she is doing fantastic!

I have dementia praecox (schizophrenia) and that has led to me experiencing cognitive impairment. I still have bad moments where I lose track of things while running a game (I use check lists and flow charts to help with that
I went from an extremely strong intellect as a programmer to having difficulty handling a water bill in the space of 2000-2005. Since then I've been working hard to regain my intellect. I'll still have bad days but that I'm still parsecs in front of similar people looked after by my local NHS (the Assertive Outreach Team).
The key piece of advice I can is this:- Exercise your brain regularly and with varying sources of stimulation at your own pace and discretion.

The cognitive part of her brain is fine, it was her brain stem that was damaged, so she has a host of problems with her autonomic nervous system, mostly described by the condition known as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, with her being on the severe side.

I've now been asked to expand the search to anyone who's previously served in the military, in any capacity (although I might draw the line if your uniform was black-pyjamas-and-an-AK47 or included swastikas...)

You know, I am a 100% disabled Veteran due to my service, and I still don't regret my signing up. Lots of good things happened to me as well. Met my wife of 20 years now, had my first 2 kids, was able to get my college degree's, met lots of good people and a whole lot more I could list.

You know, I just can't imagine a Master Sergeant anywhere, in any force, ever, roleplaying. I'm sorry!
In fact, it does blow my mind quite a bit that there are RPers in the military. What do your mates/non-mates think? Isn't there a basic level of macho pride in the military that makes Halo, basketball or music cool; but which would dissuade someone from stamp collecting, roleplaying or bird watching (notoriously 'nerdy' hobbies)?
Someone's going to kick my arse for this, but like I said, I'm always genuinely surprised to hear about RPers in the military ...
