Looking for some more ball and socket mounts for the minis.

I am putting out a call for those who might have unused 50mm/2" ball and socket bases that I might be able to purchase from you. I have an adequate supply for now, but more on hand would be nice.

Thanks

***edit, someone hooked me up with a bunch*** so I've got enough for quite a while now. :D

I recently asked the same thing:
Flight stands

At that time Nretnimoc was offering some. Note that you can get stands from Games Workshop (albeit with wider bases), and you almost certainly have plenty of spare stems (if the ACTA:SF stands were the same as the ones supplied for B5:ACTA then they'll have been supplied with two stems each), so all you really need are the balls and sockets.

One of the suggestions in that thread was Corsec Engineering. As far as I'm concerned, they're the reason why some people might have spare ball and socket heads, which is therefore one reason why I asked. :) You may want to consider them as an alternative, though.

I have tried the Corsec bases for my civilian ships. They work fine, until you add something to mark the centerline, whether that be my firing arc stickers, or just a painted on line. What happens is that every stem's threads are different in that if you just pick up a random base and stem and attach them, you don't get the same alignment every time. So you can be up to 45 degrees or more off of the centerline when you tighten up the ship on the threads.

I learned the hard way that tightening up too much is a no-no, as the stress of tightening up will cause the base to split right in half.

So you basically have to have a dedicated base and stem "matched" to each ship, which is a pain in the rear, though it is doable. The expense is not insignificant either, when you look at what the bases+stems cost.

Billclo, technically there is no reason why the ship has to 'line up' with the base, so long as the base is used for the arcs instead of the ship itself, sure its generally nice to have them lined up, because it looks prettier that way, but its not needed.

most of my ships using the ball-and-socket that came with them don't align 100% right with my bases, maybe between 5-15 degrees off center depending on how 'dramatic' i want them to be looking hehe.

I don't mind if the ships are not perfectly aligned, and yes I tell the players that we go with the base, not the ship. It's just a matter of aesthetics, really.
