Legend

Gareth Hanrahan's the man to answer this question, as he's overseen the revision of RQII into Legend.

Pete and I certainly haven't worked on anything.

Gareth!, Gareth!, Gareth!, Gareth!...Come on, give a little peek.

My prediction (based on absolutely no insider information): No changes other than a few typo fixes (and a few new typos added).

But, #1 on my wish list is: Better precision in the charging rules.

I'm not sure how much I can say, but all the errata is in, and charging and movement got overhauled.

Great news! Let's hope that the new edition attracts some interest from the RPG community. The game is already very good, and these changes make it even better!

All of us should try to introduce a few new players to Legend over the next few months :D

Its happening as we speak, my friend. A couple guys have soloed using this ruleset (the group has suffered the usual scheduling problems we all loathe) but tomorrow night, everyone will be there, with the majority never having played Legend rules, only Gurps. A few have their arms crossed over their chest with a "prove this game is as good as Gurps" type of attitude, but the two that have played it have been selling it to the rest of the group for me already. Lets hope it goes well. I want their first experience with it to be awesome.

Awesome. That's exactly what I was talking about! I'm convinced that Legend can do well if it gets more exposure. It seems to hit a number of the right notes with people looking for a streamlined fantasy system. Although I like GURPS, it's a very rules-heavy system and isn't very newbie-friendly. By contrast, you can teach a newcomer the basics of Legend in about 15 minutes.

It's an exciting time - not only is Legend coming out soon, but Chaosium's BRP seems to be hitting its stride, there's a new edition of Runequest on the horizon, and OpenQuest seems to be moving into new genres. Hopefully all of these efforts will support each other. Remember that a rising tide lifts all boats!

Heh. I have about the same problem but with WFRP in a group I'm dm'ing. And while WFRP is okay, I'm trying to tell people why it is inherently flawed when you get to the higher levels. I think some of them are starting to understand as last game session we both had a group of 5 pimped up wights almost slaughter 5 PCs, while 2 less experienced PCs managed to take on 2 minotaurs, 8 ungors, 4 centigors, 4 gors and 2 bestigors (in their defense not all at the same time though), and win easily.

So far I've had good success running WFRP using the MRQ2 ruleset with my group.

That's an interesting combination. Would you consider creating a thread to discuss your experiences and share any conversion advice that you might have?

Hi there,

I played RQ4 inback in the 90s, and am a long time CoC-Fan.

I will buy Legend and RQ6 and will read both and perhaps mix the best part of it.

Yes, please do. I am curious as to how you cover sanity/coolness tests and so on. I am underwhelmed by the sanity rules in Necromantic Arts. I have been toying with porting over CoC rules for this.
