Should gravitic shifters be able to be used on friendly ships to re-aim boresights in the shooting phase?

This would be a fantastic tactic for a combined league fleet - the wording says "enemy ship" but I dont see why it should be limited. It causes no damage so would make sense to use it on their own ships as well.

Also I think if an enemy declares a boresight beam on a ship then gets turned around due to gravitic shifters their beam should hit the new target instead - this would cause chaos and be great fun. (This is not part of the poll)

It's a weapon like any other weapon, no matter what the effects. How pleasant to you think it would be inside a ship where the local direction of 'down' suddenly shifted by 45 degrees? It may not kill crew, but it is not a gentle nudge. No direct firing on friendly and allied vessels.

Yep...our first try out of the Brakiri fleet, and I was using the Shifters to aim the Brokados better. But Wulf is right, by the rules not allowed.

Sadly, the offensive use of the things is too often unreliable, what with such a short range and a 50-50 chance of it doing nothing. I never make those damn rolls. And you really need TWO shifts to insure the enemy can't fire on something useful.
Only time it was of use was in an ACTA brawl with the Vorlons, and I kept the Heavy Cruiser facing backwards for 2 turns.

Besides, according to the text, the weapon is meant to disrupt fleet formations - I don´t think it would be accurate enough to be much of a help (no 23.5° of "re-bore-sighting" or such)

As it is a offensive weapon i dont think itd be accurate enough to aim for those .1 degrees needed to aim that boresight. Gravitic shifters would be more like something that happens within seconds and suddenly the ship shoots of into another direction, cerainly nothing youd use to aim that Laser Beam a few hundred klicks onto a target thats only 100 metres long.
