Kutai!

As a campaign player more than a tournement player, and them more narrative campaigns than straight up 'fight for the system' campaigns, I like having weak ships in each fleet list.

I believe that every military force in history has had weak units, and there is a certain satisfaction to finding ways to make weak units work, if you can.

So please DONT upgrade ships like the Haven and Kutai, every fleet needs lemons!!!!!!!!

Historically, military commanders are (or were) saddled with naff units by their political leadership. No one in wargames suffers from setbacks like this.
Also, with a well balanced system, even naff units have their place as they are (should be) cheaper to buy than better units. Then it's up to the individual to take a weaker fleet (i.e. fewer points) if they wish.

I would love to play a campaign sometime where your opponent got to choose the specific composition of your fleet, or half your fleet.

IE, For 5 of your 10 battle points, you choose the priority levels of those points, then hand the list to your opponent to fill them up with specific ships.

Point of the narrative campaign, after all is that whoever is running it selects the ships available, and the other player/s have to make do with whatever they have available.

Chance to get to use the less frequently chosen fleet, try it, its fun.

So Centauri would get lots of Kutais and Havens. The Narn would be very well stocked on T'Loths. The Minbari would get Liatis and that anti-fighter ship up the wazoo(or they'd get lots of patrol points spent on single Nial flights). And finally the EA would get Command Omegas and Command Hyperions.

You dis a couple of ships there that you might have overlooked their advantages.

The Narn T'Loth takes an aweful lot of killing, and a couple of them, which are fairly cheap, out in front of your fleet will soak up more damage than you would believe. They can take the fire from three or four times as many ships and survive for several turns, and 10AD in all arcs are not to be ignored.

The point of the command Omega is not that it's better than two Omega's, it isn't. But it's better than one. OK, you've got 1 point at armageddon to fill out your fleet. Would you rather take 2 Command Omegs, 3 normal Omegas, or a Command Omega and two normal Omegas?

The way that the points split now, they become useful

with 5 battle points to spend, what would i buy for EA :) well a nemesis and an appollo i think if i wanted to screw them over ;)

How about a Nemesis and four Tethys?

Or failing that, how about 80 flights of Breaching Pods?

problem with 80 flights of pods is that alot will get thru and cause some serious mayhem. no thethys in th crusade fleet so couldnt have them and a nemesis.

I'd rather take some War level ship other than the Command Omega and two normal Omegas.

And I'll take a pair of skirmish ships before a T'Loth. Being a damage sop isn't all that useful if you can't dish it out. Seeing how a lot of Narn skirmish ships have almost as much firepower as a T'Loth you know something is wrong. Plus since it's Hull 5 it's easy to crit a T'Loth out of the fight and then ignore it while you mop up more dangerous ships. Or even better, ignore it completely and just try and stay 9" or more away from it and blow up the more dangerous skirmish ships that are probably escorting it. Or if your ship is Hull 6 it might even be safe enough to fly within range of the secondary guns. You're probably only going to take two hits from them on average anyways. Even a hull 5 ship might be safe enough going in range of the secondary weapons depending one what weapons it's bringing to bear in return.

Now the T'Loth can be amusing at times. If you're not familiar with it, it looks far more dangerous than it really is. But once you know what it can(and more importantly can't) do you can easily adapt to it.

But then again the average Narn player won't have a T'Loth other than for looks(it is a pretty ship after all). You're going to be facing hordes of skirmish ships and at Battle on up you'll probably see Rothans supported by Ka'Tans with maybe a G'Quan or Bin'Tak thrown in for good measure as the engagement level gets higher and higher. And from what I've seen of the Armageddon ships you'll probably see lots of G'Vrahns in Armageddon engagements. Sexy war level ship(stat wise, that ugly bridge thing is kind of "eh"). I like it even better than the Bin'Tak which I always considered one of the better War level ships after the Sharlin.

i like my T'ranns thankyou very much, not a bad DD weapon, init sink for your boresights and come with 4 extra fighters for the mix. and as people said it soaks the damage. could do with AP on its weapon but apart from that its not all that bad.

Interesting idea, but so open to abuse by your opponents.

<Centauri Accent>What do you mean we have five Balvarins? What are we going to do with five Balvarins? Did someone suddenly find five of these things just lying around and decide they were an ideal gift? The universe must hate me....</Centauri Accent>

<Drazi Voice>Where did all those crates of Kotha come from? Why can't we use them as target drones? What do you mean Allies...?</Drazi Voice>
