Klingon Fleet Box arrived:

Mongoose
My Klingon Fleet Box finally arrived.

Not as banged up as the resin Federation Fleet Box was, but it had it's problems:

The resin C8 is attrocious. Flash, resin filling lugs, no stand hole, etc.
I wish they'd just gone to metal on it as well.

The C7s were a 50:50 propostion. One was OK, the other had a 90-degree kink at the end of the boom:

And one of my F5's had a bad case of the drooping boom...

Fortunately, this was an easy fix and has lent itself to naming eh vessel.
Once completed, it will be christened; the IKV Viagra!

Nice to hear you've gotten yours. I still haven't even seen an email that my Klingon fleet box is in the mail.

Only by reporting problems can problems get resolved. Perhaps there needs to be more packing material to prevent issues like this. Until Mongoose can see what is happening, it cannot solve problems. :) ADB has been dealing with long skinny booms for a while; Mongoose hasn't. There is always a learning curve.

That's why I posted here, Jean.

Not to complain as I can fix the issues with the miniatures I received, but to provide feedback for Matthew... and hoping others will respond in kind as they receive their Klignons.

If everyone has the same problem, then it's definitiely a processing issue and needs to be looked at.

My Fleet box was very good by comparrison - no real issues at all:)

I received mine a while ago but I've been so busy I've not finished assembling them.

Contents and quality - Pretty good to excellent. The engines are missing from the C8, but I've not contacted Matt yet as I need to go through my Federation fleet box and sort out what I can actually put together out of it, and I may as well raise it all at the same time.

Small ships - F5s and E4s - all neat crisp casts, with little required in terms of straightening the booms, and little flash quickly cleaned off.

D5s and D5W - nice sculpts well cast, I did particularly like the D5W as a model, having initially been worried that they'd be too much like a slightly smaller D7. I'm now sort of wishing there was a heavy version with two smaller upper engines.

C7s - the bruisers, very nice ships well executed as concepts and models. They'll be the centrepieces of my fleet and I'm very happy with them.

D6 and D7s - The D7s are the only ships with bendy booms, and it looks very much like this is due to the ships shifting inside the box in transit rather than anything else. D6s have gone together very nicely, and the D7s have been cleaned up and are waiting to be put together.

Only minor issues apart from the missing engines. A little pitting on a couple of the engines, and the engines are the parts with the most flash and most obvious mould lines. A craft knife and an emery board sorted that right out.

I assembled the ships by putting two blobs of liquid greenstuff at the end of each wing/engine section and a line of superglue between them. I then pressed them in to place and held until set. I then added a little more superglue to the underside of the join where it wouldn't be seen.

I've assembled 13 out of 15 Klingon ships with substantially less green stuff work than assembling the 3 out of 16 Federation ships I have.

Metal is significantly better.

Update on the fleet box:

All 16 ships have been assembled and are ready to prime.
E4s - both had a pewter lug on the forward end of the right nacelle. Nor hard to remove / clean-up, but it was present on both minis.
F5s - other than the droopy boom syndrome, these were great casts that cleaned up quite nicely.
D5's - no complaints.
D5W - no complaints
D6s - no complaints
D7s - no complaints
FD7 - had a pewter tab at the right fore corner of hte rear hull. Easy enough to remove / clean-up.
C7s - Bent boom (probably occured during shipping) straightened and no other issues.
C8 - There was a stand hole there. It appeard once the large resin lug was removed from the underside. Overall, it cleaned up faster than I thought it would.

Now to go back to my Fed fleet box... ugh.

I've not been able to face mine.

I've got the two Texas class cruisers done and a frigate. There's mould shift on just about every cruiser hull, and all the FF/FFB hulls are ok but there's mould shift on a lot of the engines.

I'm just not sure whether to spend a few more hours seeing if I can fix them or just ask for replacements.

For the bent ones you could always claim they have been through a spacial anomaly and as for the damaged ones, as long as it's not too serious bobbles and dents can be generally fixed or alternatively painted as a battle-damaged ship.

This is not to belittle the issues of mould deformation and shift, I'm still working on putting my brother's Amu together and make it passible; will never be perfect, but should be good enough for battle.

I've got a lot of cylinders that aren't cylindrical though, and I don't have the skill to resculpt all the surface detail once I've spent hours getting them to be cylindrical.

I'll have time at the weekend to properly go through them, and I'll email customer services then.

Ben2, I would urge you to contact customer service if you aren't happy with the quality of the minis. Mongoose has the reputation of making things right.

If thats the case i should point out my federation ships that were bigger than an escort had bad casting on the them (one even had a dodgy hull).

Well i will be doing a little show and tell on the 28th

I will contact customer services, but I'll have to sit for a couple of hours and go through everything to sort the parts out that need replacing, and I work, commute and I'm running for local council at the moment so I literally go home to sleep and don't have the time to do it.

Almost completing the Klingon fleet box (which I would highly recommend to people) in the time since I got it is a minor miracle for me based on the available time I have.
