Klingon Disruptors are overpowered and unbalanced!

well thats because CTA is not a single ship on single ship type of game, its balanced more towards fleets. for single ship play SFB or Fedcom (which is much better than this for 2-4 ships).

take a look back at B5 CTA and you will see single ships from different fleets struggled there too but put a whole fleet together and it was alot more balanced.

Never played other CTA games.

But I agree, I was merely adding to those saying Feds are better in larger fights by looking at the extremes. My first ever game was a demo game, 2 Feds vs 2 Klingons and I came away thinking that Klingons were way more potent than feds, but soon realized that ACTA really isn't designed for small fights, at least without some thought put into such a game (small well thought out scenarios may be fine).

This does raise one potential concern though... If Klingons are relatively powerful in small games (or Fed relatively weak), where does this leave campaigns? I've noticed that campaigns tend to be stacked towards smaller games...

Klingons vs Federation is pretty balanced, even in small games. I've seen a lot of pretty good players go for Klingons though, possibly because the ships are cooler.

While the Connie is a classic, the C7 looks far more boss than the Kirov class.

I'd say ACTA is fine for 2-4 a side games, just use a decent amount of terrain and bear in mind it won't take too long to play.

I've been mostly playing small games 500 - 750 points per side, and my Klingons have done fairly well against the Federation. I'll take plenty of Phaser damage, but I am usually able to prevent them from getting a solid Photon strike against me.

If anything, I'd say that Romulans have done the best in the small-scale games I've played. I haven't won a single game against Romulans with my Klingons. But that's mostly due to not being able to figure out how best to fight them. Cloak + Plasma is an annoying combination to have to deal with.

The Klingon Fleet is really the only one that I can honestly say that I like all the designs for. Them, and the Gorn. They have a nice 60's sci-fi feel to them.

The biggest disappointment for me design-wise are the Kzinti. They could have used an update in my opinion.

I guess at least you like part of the romulans too, the klingon parts? hehe

Heh... Actually my favorite Romulan designs are the Eagle-series ships.

I guess I'm just a fan of the designs used on the show or similar to ships from the show when it comes to the Big 3 races.

I really liked both the Eagle and Battlehawk miniatures, but I was going to put off getting an eagle fleet till the Vulture came out (because there is an SFB eagle squadron box that should come out around the time the vulture is available).

But then they were total eggshells instead of just being about a class smaller in terms of damage, and while I love the minis I'll house rule them.

Having been introduced to the SFU through ACTA, I was a little disappointed to learn that th condor is a '3rd gen' or hawk generation ship but doesnt look a thing like the hawks except for the pod on the front.

The eagles and the hawks are my fav of the romulan ships for their looks, as for the K series, 1/2 of them are command ships, and due to the weapons loadout, those are the ones that i find most worth taking. This seems pretty true of all the romulan ships, that there isnt a ship without command that feels like it has a 'heavier' loadout.

I guess most romulan fleets will just have a lot of command redundancy hehe.

I think, and i'm sure that our SFB brothers will correct me if wrong, that there was a 'Hawk' series modular Dreadnought (could fall into the SCS (Space Control Ship - originally a Kzinti idea, a ship that moved into an area and 'controlled' it - dreadnought tpye armament and fighter/psudo(?) fighters carried) class of vessel, logical with the 'modular' aspect of the Hawks)

All i know it it would be a scary beast, in whichever mode fielded. Multiple 'R' type plasma's are a standard (?)

The Demon-Hawk???
Three R's, Two S's, and two D's mounted on an enlarged 'Hawk frame.
Throw in eleven Phaser-1s and it was a scary beast!
