KILL THE SHARLIN!!!!

Here goes a little bit of a challenge for everyone.

You get to field one battle point of ships in an ambush of a Sharlin War Cruiser.

It is your choice of battlefield. You can hit him in the middle of an asteroid field, come out of hyoperspace around him, even start at edge of open space map and just charge.

The Sharlin will only move straight ahead its standard move (will not damage itself though flying into stuff) and not fire on its first turn while the crew scrambles to battle stations.

So what would you field, where would you hit the Sharlin, and finally what would your strategy be to win?

Dude, I need revenge on what my friend did to my Shadows with his Sharlin, so I will probably take as many Shadow Scouts to equal one point of Battle and split that thing in half....well that is just my opinion....

-OTSK

Minbari - a Leshath and Tigara - get rid of the stealth and blast it with everything you have.

Centauri - hmm 3 Demos, 1 Kutai and 2 Havens, get to 6" and fire the Havens first to try and reduce stealth then hit it with everything else.

Narn - maybe two Dag'Kars? hit at close range after firing energy mines

ISA - 8 Blue Stars - charge !

Shadows - 2 Scouts - see it, please see it,

Vorlons - 4 transports - if at first you don't succed beam again

Early EA: 1 Oracle and 3 Sagittarius - Pray you break stealth and score lots of criticals with all those precise missiles. Of course, if you don't you'll be toast next turn :)

Drazi: 2 Eyehawks and 6 Sunhawks - CHAAARGE !

Brakiri: Scout and 3 Ikortas - Hope your Grav Cannons do heavy damage to his engines and then land 30 troops on him next turn (even if only one of your Ikortas survive long enough to board you still have a fair chance of capturing him). The scout can stand off out of laser range once the Sharlin is damaged enough to ensure that you have at least one ship intact long enough for your marines to do their stuff.

EA Early: 1 oracle, 3 Artemis gunships (get in his flank and pound him to death... hopefully

EA 3rd age: Omega loaded with T-bolts, jump in and hit him in the side arc

EA Crusade: Marathon all the way!

Brakiri: anything, it just doesn't matter, they always lose

Massed fighters.

2 Dag'Kars.

2 Whitestar I (scout)

2 Gaim carriers.

Pak squadrons using plasma web to paint the Sharlin for +1 vs. stealth, then plasma torps.

4 Raider strike carriers with 3 breaching pods each and jumping in.

Is this sung to "Kill the wabbit"! ?

Dilgar:

6 Jashakar Tae & 2 Jashakar Vi.

The strategy would be to simply close with in 8", all power to engines if necessary, then attempt to lower stealth with the scouts; or if the first scout succeeds on lowering stealth then have the second offer weapon re-rolls. I'd have 5 Tae's in a Pentacon and the rest in a standard squadron. Shoot with the scouts first, so that if they fail stealth it's not as big of a deal and if they succeed you get an additional -1 to stealth for everyone else, then light 'em up with everything else. Statistically, if everyone passes stealth checks, you'll deal roughly 55 points of damage to the Sharlin, this is with out gaining re-rolls from the scouts or the use of CAF, which not only cripples him but also leaves him with only 5 remaining hitpoints; and this also isn't taking critical effects into account.

i'd go with the gaim... prety hard to go wrong with them in this scenario, but my prefrence would probably be:

1 Stuteeka
2 Shuuka

thats 22 AD of e-mine weaponry, 36 klikitas, and 12 breaching pods, not to mention the suprtior range, and crew quality.

Vree:

2 Vaarl and either 2 Xeels or 4 Xarrs

Much the same as SylvrDragon's Dilgar, with the possible addition of 8 flights of Tzymm.

I'll take 1 Shadow Stalker, on a clear board. I'll win initiative 70% of the time, so the Sharlin won't get to use (either of) his beams very often. I'll stay inside of 8" to get the stealth bonus but outside of 4" to keep my dodge. Pretty good odds fo me, IMO :)

A Skirmish Swarm is doomed to failure IMO. With only 1 battle point vs 1 War point, you'll be losing too many ships.

Just out of curiosity why would you lose your dodge within 4"?

For my fleet I would probably take a shot with 2 Haltonas, when i fail stealth the beams don't fire and if i succeed with both on turn one that 10AD of DD Beam shooting at it before it can even do anything.

I think he is thinking of 1st ed Mini Beams...........but even then they only ignored dodge from fighters IIRC? :)
