Keep the Vorchan?

Hi all! I just received my Centauri box set and about to start assembling the models. I have played several test games and in these, have found that the Vorchan is only OK as a skirmish level ship. I have really fallen in love with the Maximus (both its looks and performance). When I ordered the box, I had planned on turning 3 of the Vorchans into Maximus Frigates and the other 3 into Corvan Scouts (something I desperately need vs. my Minbari opponent). The customizing shouldn’t be too hard for both changes but I wanted to check before I did anything:

Is there any reason I should keep the Vorchan? I would love to hear from some experienced players out there to let me know if I am about to make a “terrible” mistake.

Thanks!

Curtis

I say wait till 2nd edition for the Vorchans. I am rather a fan of the ship and the problem is with skirmish ships is that they are constantly compared to the Ka'Tok/Tan and it makes many otherwise good ships seem worthless.

I always throw a pair of Vorchans in as escorts for Darkners because I love them so much but they have just been emasculated to the point where they are only good as initiative sinks and fast shielding escorts. Real Bummer to as the original Vorchan was spot on as far as I could tell. Used to love a pack of vorchans in the original version. Now they're pretty lame compared to almost all the other skirmishers.

vorchans in packs are great. try running 4 individual maximus with 2 squadrons of 3 vorchans as a 5pt raid fleet. does quite well.

also keep your vorchans around for 2e release next month. they are definately worth it.

Sorry, I'm not trying to hyjak the thread. I started playing with revised edition and never saw the stats for the original vorchan. What are the differences that made it so cool?

The hit points were 20/5 and it had super ap on the plasma accelerator and it had 10 twin linked dakka guns instead of 8. Then it was changed to just 18/6 in the revised (which was also fine by me) then it became 15 ap1 on the plasma gun and 8twin on the dakka. Its only a small distinction but makes the difference between a solid reliable skirmish ship to be the centerpiece of a centauri fleet (which it should be for the Centauri show wise) into a lame duck you really don't want given there are so many cool alternatives and its been very much emasculated.

I often play with 3 of then in a squadron but they are indeed pretty weak atm. Can't wait for 2nd edition to use the other 5 in my collection :p

Yeah they are kind of pants right now, one solid hit and POP. Which is a shame considering that they were one of the centauris iconic ships on the show. When I used to play against the LONAW they always seemed to have an uphill fight against warbirds.

As others have already said the Vorchan does not shine in head to head battles. The vorchan comes into its own in missions needing speed such as flee to the jump gate. The variant hulls are also pretty good; I think that the Vorchar War Scout is one of the best blockade runners out there.

I myself have been pleased with packs of 3 Vorchans running flanks and don't think they need much of a boost if any at all.

Vorchans are fine if they are one bigger ships in the game but soon as raid ship appears it's all down hill. They cripple to easy which is a killer. I never saw why they changed their stats.
The best skirmish ships i my mind are Olympus & Ka T??s.
Those Olympi are cleaning my Centauri up in Skirmish & patrol games.
They just seem to soak the damage, taking the 5+ save. That turreted gun & 10" twinlinks spell doom for my ships + the non interceptable missles have been causing extreme headaches.
