Just got my copy of 2e

Mongoose
Amazon finally shipped my copy of the Conan 2e rule book. Work has been rough and I haven't had a chance to give the book more than a cursory inspection. However, just casually flipping pages lead to a couple of pages in the back falling completely out! Is this a common problem to the 2e book or is this a fault with just my copy???

Mine is worrying me due to the apparent brittleness of the spine. The cover pages that hold the book to the cover are cracked. I've a feeling it might fall apart on me.

I've had the same experience as Koski; my copy totally came apart when reading, but I got a new one pretty quick.

I'm pleased to say mine made it unscathed. It has since already been subjected to several dings from normal usage (the problem with nice glossy hardbacks is that those stand out so well). But to be honest, I've also been exceptionally gentle cracking it open. So far, I haven't even read the gazetteer because of its placement in the book and it's not as if I don't already have all that material from before anyhow.

Now, watch it fall apart on me when I start having to leave it held open while referencing it during a game session...

That's my main concern, wear from use at the gaming table. My 1e, Atlantean edition, and Pocket guide have held up spectacularly well (yes, I bought one of each and even the PDF version to copy and paste rulings in my notes). The new book started coming apart after I took it out of the Amazon box and flipped through it (not even fully opened).

Am I the only viewer of this newsgroup that still enjoys 1st ed Conan, and yes I have a little 'schadenfreude' over the books falling apart; it might be a sign that 2ed was a waste?

I've received my copy of C2E and have mixed feelings. I'm glad I've got the most recent edition, I'm not so glad its black and white throughout; such is just uninspiring and bland in my opinion. Yeah, I knew it was going to be B/W. But seeing it and looking through it is completely different from thinking about it or trying to imagine it.

I'm glad I waited and got it at a better/lower price because I sure wouldn't have wanted to pay full price for it as is. I'm not so glad I went to the trouble.

I dunno---I'm just not impressed with it or inspired by it. I really think Mongoose could and should have done better by the game and the fans/players. Its a great game, a great product with a big following. It deserves better. Just my opinion.

I actually really dig the black n white look - i'm one of those people who misses the old Black and white RPG tomes of yore. I also think a lot of the artwork actually looks better and more well suited to Conan in Black and White.

While I do miss the slick 4 color pages from the old game, I'm glad to get new content in the main rule book. The one thing about the 2e book that really bugs me is the blue spine. Doesn't sit well with the rest of my Conan RPG library.

I guess you'll have to get used to it. It seems all 2nd Ed books will get the blue spine.

It woudl make it easy to tell 1E and 2E books apart though.

Yeah, that's true, but I like having my shelf of red spined Conan books. Red just seems more "Conan" to me than blue. But that's a minor gripe at best. I've enjoyed the line this far, my players have become diehard Conan fans and Crom forbid I cancel or push back a scheduled game. So, I'll learn to live with the new spine. :)

I sent e-mails to both addys and got responses from both. Have you not heard anything back from Rveal?
