I think the miniatures are perfectly suitable for the game. Given the fact that they are only £2 each, a bargain compared to many miniature companies, complaining that they are not highly realistic/detailed is going a bit far. Back in the day when Citadel made the miniatures, the sculpts were not great, but they were perfectly servicable for playing the Dredd rpg.
regards the paint jobs - not everyone who collects miniatures can paint them to the industry standard. I have been painting for 20 years and still cannot match the work of the artists at games workshop or the foundry. Nothing worse than seeing a perfectly painted miniature (which is the reason you buy it, the advert looks so cool) yet you yourself cannot recreate it. Paint jobs are personal, so if you can do better, good for you, but dont complain when others are not up to your personal standard! At the end of the day, people would still buy them if they were photographed unpainted.
The miniatures look good when painted fairly and put on a good tabletop. They are easily affordable compared to many other companies, which makes them accessable. And for me, more important is the fact that you can buy what you want, unlike say star wars miniatures where you have to buy booster after booster hoping to find a Boba Fett (you want bad sculpts, look at the last few lines of SW miniatures by wizards).
Good on mongoose for bringing these back out as I missed them first time round. Looking forward to seeing others. I agree with some of the other posters, box sets with new scenarios would be a good idea, but dont start making random boosters, that would destroy it!
And let us know when we can get lawmasters, angel gang, dark judges, chopper, and all the other famous faces from the Dredd world!
cheers!
