Judge Death

I think some open days at MGP for JD alone would be good. Rebellion is only around the corner in Oxford. And a small 'Mini' tournament/painting competition would even help. even if its 25 people thats a start.

Is Judge Dredd just not as popular as I thought? Maybe the fans just don't know about the games.

That is a really good question, IMO. It seems like it has more of a cult following than a fan base, if that makes any sense. Kind of like Star Wars has a fan base, but Army of Darkness has a cult following.

For my own personal experience, other than the movie with Sly I had never even seen a JD comic until I found a couple of old ones my brother had. And I did collect comics for a couple of years, but even then I never saw any JD.

Its always damn american super-hero comics in our comic stores. :(

I see graphic novels if I look. Hard.

That's a shame that it didn't garner mor einterest.

Personally I would have made a boardgame that works on a similar set of rules, and has a few pre assembled plastic minis. I would have advertised that in 2000 AD magazine. People are more likely to try a boardgame, which is a genre they have probably tried before, than a wargame.

From there there would be a decent chance that they would move on to the minis game if they liked the boardgame. Just an idea, but one that might have worked.

Something similar to the old GW JD boardgame from the mid 80's?

Similar, yes. Basically using the game as a marketing tool. A lead in to the main game for non wargamers who would usualy not play wargames just because they are an unknown genre to them.

I have a small resin terrain accesory business and I cross promote to railroad scenics folks. I make small resin crate packages that come with a complimentary set of my simple train robbery minis game. Then some of them really like the game and bu more resin pieces to play with, and eventually browse my full rulesets for games.

It's all about the hook. Once you have a good hook your products can really take off.

Maybe if the game was done standalone, like a mix of that and Hybrid from Rackham, prepainted figures, in depth rules, etc.
