It's a Christmas miracle - Ben paints some ships

Hi guys

This thread is for me to post pictures of painted and WIP ACTA Star Fleet and ACTA Noble Armada ships, and give me some time to build up some headway before posting a plog on Warseer. I think if we start putting plogs on warseer and maybe even start a Tale of Space Gamers up we will see more people picking stuff up and hopefully get more opponents.

Here's the first couple of ships.

I did a Klingon E4 and a Federation frigate first of all to test the schemes.

I liked the scheme on the E4 enough that I've painted the E4s, F5s, C7s and FD7 from the Klingon fleet box in that scheme. I'll post pictures tomorrow (but that means the Klingon fleet box is on 50% done).

Here's the rest of my Federation fleet box, I've since received metal replacements for all the miscasts and from what I've checked so far they're ok. I've since gone over these three ships again and they looked even greener before I undercoated them.

Ben, let me advise you, based upon my experience with the green putty, don't use it for Fed ships. It takes way too many coats of paint to cover up adequately. I use the Squadron white putty for Feds.

I undercoat black and layer up from there, so it went ok on the frigate, which had a bunch of utty on it.

Nicely done. White can be difficult to goet neat over black.

Did you paint the nacelles of the Frigate separately? Positioned as they are they seem to be on opposite sides to the usual layout.

I've got the light so here is some more painted stuff.

If I'm well enough to make the tournament next week (and I'm going to leave it as late as I can before booking a ticket because I've got a bunch of health issues) I'll take plenty more pictures with better light.

No, I assembled it before painting. I worked out I'd stuffed it up after I'd finished.

None of my frigates are going to look standard, as the metal replacement frigates I got are missing the sensor dish attachment and I can't find the ones that came with the resin ones.

On the other hand they're a pain in the nuts anyway as a separate piece and the mini looks better without them.

Oh, and to do white I do the following.

Shadow Grey basecoat, wetbrush of Vallejo Game Colour Wolf Grey, drybrush of the new citadel base Ceramic White, then get a 000 brush and make sure the edges of the hull plates are right.

Finally the FD7

I'm terrible at taking pictures and I think much of the effect of these has been lost. Hopefully better pics next week.

And finally, I'd like to thank Sandrine for helping me get my hands on the ample nacelles on this baby.

Looking good, and don't worry about the picture difficulties. Without some specific and often pricey equipment taking pictures of something that small is always going to be difficult, especially if you're wanting to get more than a tiny portion of the model in focus.

Federation and Klingon C8 comparison shot.

The C8 on it's own, what a sexy beast.

I've started painting the C8. Here is how I do my green Klingons.

Base coat - Knarloc Green

2 thin coats of Scurf Green (vallejo game colour).

Thin coat of Striking Scorpion Green.

I then wash with Thraka Green, touch up with Striking Scorpion Green and do a final highlight with Goblin Green. I'll post pictures of this tomorrow.

Right, after assembling the Federation Reinforcements squadron box and doing that review I assembled two more.

Here is the bare naked metal:

And then I undercoated the lot. Time to get a Federation fleet painted.
