Is there a provision for anti-missle fire with missiles?

Mongoose
I was looking at the combat rules, and noted that there don't seem to be any rules for targeting missiles other than point defense via lasers or sandcasters. I would think it would be feasible to engage incoming missiles at a fair range with other missiles, or some specialized anti-missiles.

Sure, I can house-rule something up, but I'd like to keep things standard as possible if I were ever to try and fight against another player's creations you know? :D

Speak to apoc. He essentially rewrote the missile section of the book for his own use, including heavy missiles, light missiles and interceptor missiles.

I am not aware of any Traveller source concerning anti-missile missiles,
although such missiles with proximity fuses would probably work in space
combat.

I could perhaps see a requirement to use a nuclear missile unless you had some high tech whiz bang guidance system to get a skin-to-skin kill.

As I read the rules, any hit destroys a missile, and a sandcaster does a
damage of 1 at very close range. Therefore a generous referee might
rule that an anti-missile missile with a sand canister as its warhead could
create a big enough sand cloud to destroy an attacking missile without
any need to hit it or get very close to it.

Best bet would be the ship based weapon sensors guiding it to target and then, short range sensors on missile taking over for the final couple of seconds.

I'm starting to see Traveller battles as a bit like Robotech now... :)

Lots of missile trails and then explosions filling up the area as they are intercepted, miss and explode or hit the target...

Or like the space battles in Peter Hamilton's Reality Disfunction series, or the Honor Harrington series. :D

Not read either - might have to - I keep hearing about the HH series in particular...
The first two books are free on the baen library, and the others used to be. You can get links to them from the honorverse wiki. They're very, very good.

The first 4-5 books are excellent. As the series goes on, more and more political oriented stuff is added, which gets a little tiresome. But the series is a solid one, and I give it 4.5 stars.

I think they're up to 11 books now in the main series, with a bunch of parallel story books as well.

The original Traveller rules, and the subsequent incarnations, have never taken into accout counter-missiles or point-defense.

While you can use anti-ship lasers in the point-defense role, it's kind of like using a 5" gun to shoot down a cruise missile. As far as the official rules go, you choose to use lasers in off/def role, but that's about it.
