Ironclads Redux

I have recently become aware of a new line in 1/1200 ironclads (and possibly 1/600 as well) coming out of New Zealand. I've seen the 3D models from which the masters are being made and if the models are anything like what I've seen they'll be lovely! First releases appear to be Chilean and Peruvean ships from the 1879 war, also 1/1200 Arab and Israeli missile craft from the Yom Kippur War.

With luck they'll also be doing 1/600 ships from the War of the Triple Alliance!

More details as and when I get them.

Those would be too huge to use for games...

The largest South American ship of that era that I could find in a skim through Conway's would be - in 1/600 scale - a little bit shorter than a 1:2400 scale Tirpitz. Remember, most of these ships were less than 200 feet long. If you were doing European navies, it would be different; HMS Warrior, for example, would be a bit less than 7 inches in length and HMS Minotaur would be 7 inches on the nose. Those might be a tad large but I think they'd still be usable. Not to mention, they'd just look wicked cool :D .

Peter Pig and Thoroughbed both make extensive ranges of 1/600 ironclads (as do Bay Area Yards) and I've never seen anyone having problems using their models on a bog standard wargames table :)

The manufacturer is called North Head and they are just getting started. No website yet but they are working on it furiously. I'll post more details as and when I get them.
