Iron Empires (Burning Empires)

Hi,

Have any of you read Iron Empires comics? They are pretty heavily influenced by CT and even though there are only two graphic novels out there they are fabulous.

There is also an RPG based on it called Burning Empires but it is a sort of competitive RPGs where GM plays against the players. I'm not sure if I can convince my players to give it a try (too different play style) but the game has nice background info about the setting.

I have been thinking about making a conversion to Traveller rules but if anyone has already done that, I'd like to hear what your experiences have been.

I'm getting a real Warhammer 40K vibe off of the front cover to the first trade. Which is bad, because I am not a big fan of Space Marines.

The artwork does look good though, and the covers for the second trade seem more 'traveller esque' than the first trade.

It's not WH40K, really. Unfortunately I don't have a link to site that have/had more elaborate information about the setting.

Personally if I would try and find a similar game it would be Fading Suns.

The Iron (as in Iron Empires) is the name of the powered armor that is pretty rare and reserved for nobility and elite forces in the same way as full plate was used by knights in the middle ages. But then again there are powered armor in Starship Troopers and Traveller, too

The first book told a story of a templar like warrior and his troops, so admittedly it has a bit of the similar feeling to space marines. Still, they are just humans in power armor and not genetically engineered super soldiers like SM are.

In the second book the protagonist and her troops are using a lot lighter armor.

Both of them are still mil scifi stories...

I have ran Traveller with BE as a one off but no notes on it.

It would be nice for Mongoose to get a signature artist in to develop the OTU look but that probably does not fit in with the whole "generic" thing they are prostituting.
