Interceptor rules confirmation

We've had a little debate at the club regarding how interceptors work. I was wondering if people could give me some confirmation of whether i am doing it correctly.

Ok lets say someone shoots at an Omega with 3 interceptors and gets like 7 hits. All hits from non beam or mini beam weapons are interceptable.

Process is

1st hit : roll 3 dice needing 2+ get 1,3,4 stop the hit and the 1 is discarded.
2nd hit: roll 2 dice needing 3+ get 4,5. stop the hit and keep all dice.
3rd hit : roll 2 dice needing 4+ get 3,6. Stop the hit and the 3 is discarded.
4th hit : roll 1 dice needing 5+ get a 3. Hit gets through.
5th hit : roll 1 dice needing 6 get a 6. Hit is stopped.
6th hit : roll 1 dice needing 6 get a 3. hit gets through.
7th hit : roll 1 dice needing 6 get a 6. Stop the hit.

All subsequent shots are resolved the same as hits 5,6 & 7 listed above until the the next turn starts.

Is this correct?

I presume on the 7th hit you meant a 6 not a 4 to stop the hit. If thats the case you are doing it correctly. All hits there after need a 6 to stop.

That is indeed the correct manner. Hit 5, 6, and 7 are resolved as "depleted interceptors" which happens after all the interceptor dice are exhausted. Meaning, each hit can be intercepted 1/6 of the time by rolling a 6 on 1 die for that hit.

thats all correct and once you are down to one die on 6s it makes it easier cos if your opponent gets 5 hits just roll 5 dice at the same time all needing 6s to stop one hit :)

Does anyone know if interceptors are going to change in 2e? I'd like to see each interceptor die stop a hit, not just the whole pool of dice stops 1. I could see a decrease in dice if ther were the case, probably to the point where no ship would get more then 4, but right now interceptors are handy but not really much help after 3 or 4 hits.

I know someone mentioned other ships being able to overlap intercepter coverage in 2e, I just hope you can roll for each ship individually and not just add them up in a pool, might as well not even bother then.

The basic rules don't change. But there are ways to boost your interceptors.

Its more the ability to give interceptor dice to another ship. Which is darn useful.

If you permit interceptor banks (like bases do), sidewinder, you'll rapidly find that races like the pak'ma'ra will be utterly pointless. No way any quantity of plasma torps get through.

Interceptors, even when depleted, stop 16% of all non-beam fire. That's already a pretty great feature when you get past the primary defense on its own!

Thats why you send in fighters first or fire weaker weapons so your big stuff can get through. And even if you did it like starbases, ships only have on average 2 dice so I doubt it would be that bad.
