Independent mars fleet?

I concur with the patrol boat, system monitor, in system fleet crowd. Mars would hardly have enough resources to produce and maintain an interestellar fleet.

Why just Earth Hulls, would have thought Brakiri and Narn might be ready to offload a few trinkets...even the Vree (flying saucers from mars - seems appropriate). should be a lot of surpless Markab hulls around too.

As regards Mars Independance, would think that during the Crusade era the Alliance would be looking to muscle back in on Mars affairs as Earths days as the home of humanity seem to be numbered, and Mars real estate would be much more desirable assuming that the centre of the Earth Alliance is to remain in the Solar system.
Death of a homeworld can drive races to the extreme ..witness the Dilgar....might be some fun scenarios / alternate history ideas here.

In the US we have National Guard and Reserve units who take hand me down equipment from the Federal services to use and keep in case of future conflict. If I recall correctly, the UK has (or had) a similar force in the Territorial Army, but I could be mistaken.

Granted, the US Navy Reserves do not operate large vessels. Still it might be worth a look at things like the Artemis, Tethys and Olympus as candidates for "Semi-retirement".

Despite photos to the contrary, I'm not sure Crusade Era ships should be included in this. I'm not sure even admitting the Third Age Raid level ships would be useful, but, if the Raiders can afford a Nova, why can't Mars? Raise everything one priority level, then allow no more than 1 Battle level FAP devoted to the Independent Mars fleet.

Still, "they" would have no need for anything resembling a battle fleet... patrol ships, some, just to show off their semi-autonomy, but they fall under the EA umbrella. There would be no real infrastructure to support anything more.

Sorry, just have to correct you here. The Army Reserves ARE one of the Federal services. All the Reserves are. And the Army Reserves typically (though not always) get brand new equipment. They just also tend to hold on to their equipment a lot longer than the Regular Army. Used equipment goes to the [fill in branch here] National Guard and the Marines.

Depends on the unit. The have several escort carriers and large cruisers and even some subs. Granted, no Nimitz-class carriers or anything else that size, but as US Navy ships go, the USNR has some of the bigger ships.

Marines get used equipment? Not if we can swipe some new stuff first!
