In the latest update (NEWTRAV_UPDATE_4_DEC.pdf), on page 60, under the heading Task Chain, there is an example I can't quite follow:
For example, Erik and Kathya are trying to locate a
hidden base on an icy moon. Erik has Electronics
(computers), and suggests trying to augment their ship’s
scanners. Kathya has the Electronics (Sensors) skill,
and stays on the bridge while Erik goes down to the
Electronics (sensors) pods with his toolkit.
Firstly, Erik makes his Engineer (electronics) check. He
gets an Effect of 5, which grants DM+1 to the next task
in the chain. Kathya will now make her Sensors check
with DM+1 thanks to Erik’s efforts.
As far as I can tell, there is no Engineer (electronics) speciality anymore (the ones mentioned in this version are M-Drive, J-Drive, Life Support and Power).
In the continued example (p. 61), there is another speciality mentioned which is also not mentioned in the Science skill description:
... if Morn were then to use his Science (geology) skill ...
(now the previous version of the core rules I have access to also only mentions the Science (geology) skill in the example).
I think it would be more clear, certainly for the base rules, to mention only skills and specialities that are in the rulebook.
Given the example, I would guess the idea was that Erik made his Electronics (computers) check with an effect of 5, but that's not reflected in the current text.
Also, the text the Electronics (sensors) pods seems to be a find-and-replace error (I guess).
